Review Fix chats with “Again” director Alexis Jacknow who discusses the film and lets us know why it’s a perfect companion for anyone who loves the NBC hit “This is Us.”
Review Fix: How does it feel to be a part of the Tribeca Film Festival?
Alexis Jacknow: It’s such an enormous honor to be selected to screen at Tribeca, especially as a first-time filmmaker. I lived in New York for seven years and studied my craft there, so this feels like a wonderful homecoming.
Review Fix: What makes this film a special one to you?
Jacknow: This film is so special to me because it’s my first! Although I’ve been directing theater for years and have spent time on set as an actor, this was my first time melding those experiences and getting behind the camera.
Review Fix: What was the mood on set like?
Jacknow: We were shooting in very tight quarters, so we had to be very focused and respectful of each other’s space. Everyone was a total pro.
Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy this film the most?
Jacknow: Certainly anyone who loves Groundhog Day. Anyone who loves NBC’s This Is Us. (Our writer, Bekah Brunstetter, is a producer on that show and really brings a similar sentiment to our piece.) Also, anyone who has suffered a long term illness or been a caretaker to someone who is suffering.
Review Fix: How would you like this film to be remembered?
Jacknow: That’s a really ironic question to ask about this piece. You’ll have to watch to find out why.
Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone watch it?
Jacknow: I think it’s a sweet little reminder not to take those you love for granted. You never know when your circumstances will change.
Review Fix: What else do you have coming up for you?
Jacknow: I’ve written my first feature film which I hope to direct later this year.
