Battle Ax Set to Receive Social Justice Award

“Since day one our collective goal was to reach our families using our gift of Hip Hop music that God blessed us with. Every member of our team back then came from the streets and urban communities of Southern California. Most of my family was involved in gangs, drugs and prisons. Johnny Diaz the Revolutionary became a member of our Crew a little after gang rivals shot up his house in San Diego. We were a young group of people that were tired of the social issues that our own generation faced. As our ministry, music and movement grew we operated as anthropologists studying the development of cultures all over the country. Keep in mind that we were always a Hip Hop Crew. To the Christian community we were a Gospel Hip Hop group, while the Secular community saw us as an underground political Hip Hop movement. 

We were always big on giving back to our local community of Anaheim, CA. We would feed the homeless and prostitutes, visiting homeless shelters while involved in community outreaches. In our early years the doors to Mexico opened to us giving us the opportunity to visit prison inmates and many villages throughout Baja, California Mexico. By being faithful to the work in Mexico, God opened up every single Native American community in the United States. We became suicide, gang and drug advocates in every major city visiting communities, jails and prisons. Our team has visited Alaska, Hawaii and most places experiencing social disorder. Our goal has always been to give back to the people by producing the best quality music and by being examples to the young people. 

I dedicate this award to my wife Melissa, my children, Johnny Diaz, Yvette Aranda, Dez Lewis, Lezette Garza, Krista Rocha, Little Victor Ornelas, Corina “DJ Siren” Gonzalez, J Biz, Arlene Lambert, J5, Little Battle Ax, Hapizzez Jef, Ruby Martinez, Esther Escobedo, Justin DeWolfe, Candy Sandy, Christian PapaRotzee Jr. and everyone that has ever been part of our Sons of God team. This Social Justice Award is a reminder of what a group of young people can do to give back to society for over two decades. This experience that we have all gained is priceless and we are excited to impart this knowledge to students for a long time to come,” stated Dr. Robert “Battle Ax” Ornelas
