Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter DYLYN, who discusses her new single, “American Nightmare,†breaking down the creative process behind it and her goals for the future.
Review Fix: What makes American Nightmare a special track?
DYLYN: American Nightmare is special to me because it’s relative to this generation in the sense that things happened differently than they did prior to our parents. There isn’t such a clear cut path for everyone. We’re working on ourselves and spending more time on self discovery. It’s a liberating feeling and it’s healthier.
Review Fix: What inspired it?
DYLYN: I was seeing some of my friends getting engaged and it made me feel like I was behind. I also have friends that are traveling all over the world figuring themselves out. I had to take a step back and realize everyone is on their own path. It’s the time in my life to find myself and explore everything. There’s no rush, there’s no time limit, there is no wrong or right, just your own pace.
Review Fix: How is it different from your other tracks?
DYLYN: I feel as though my tracks flow and compliment each other. This is more of a flag planting anthem about how one should live their life as they please. There are no rules.
Review Fix: How do you want it to affect people?
DYLYN: I want it to relate to people who are still finding themselves or aren’t sure about their path. It should be a reminder that there is no right path. You go at your own pace in life. Don’t ever stop yourself from doing something because you don’t think you’re the right age, gender, or time. You only have one life, never live it safe or you may look back in regret.
Review Fix: Bottom Line, why should someone listen to it?
DYLYN: If it’s a Friday night with your buddies, the last 3 minutes of your cardio, it’s something to jam out to and have fun with. Puts you in a rock and roll mood.
Review Fix: What’s next?
DYLYN: I’m going to keep releasing songs off my album and tour. I love touring so much and I can’t wait to get out there and play shows. I live for the head bangs and connecting with an audience.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
DYLYN: American Nightmare video will drop soon and I’m in the studio right now brewing up some fun covers.
