Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Max Paxton, who discusses his new Hunter Street Station Blues EP, as well as his goals and creative process.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Max Paxton: I’ve played guitar since I was 9 years old and grew up with young parents always playing local music. I got signed to my first indie label at the end of high school and have performing and writing songs ever since.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Paxton: A mix of folk and alternative country.
Review Fix: What makes “Baby Don’t Go” a special track?
Paxton: It’s the first track that I have ever released which features my brother on backup vocals and additional guitar.
Review Fix: What musicians influenced you the most?
Paxton: I’ve always loved classics like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt. Lately, I’ve been digging Sam Outlaw, the Deslondes, Faye Webster, and Fionn Regan.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Paxton: I think I would want people to listen and be inspired to document their own life stories, and hopefully provide hope to anyone who has ever experienced heartache or hard times.
Review Fix: Why is this EP a must buy?
Paxton: I am not one to push my music in anyone’s face, but I recommend checking it out to learn how one could turn a negative into a positive, to hopefully one day put it all back together and move forward through this crazy life and times.
Review Fix: How do you think your experiences in life lend themselves to music?
Paxton: My main thing is storytelling and writing lyrics so I rely on people, places and emotions in my past and present to help tell a story. The melody usually arrives shortly after the initial story concept.
Review Fix: What are your end goals in music?
Paxton: To make music and document my life through music until the day I die. Again, I would like to inspire people to turn hard times into good times, and not give up on love and life.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Paxton: Working on my next full length at the moment. I am also itching to get back out there on the road and out in the wind.
