Review Fix chats with Buster Shuffle’s Jet Baker (Piano, Vocals), who discusses their new album, “I’ll Take What I Want.â€
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Jet Baker: Buster Shuffle formed 10 years ago; we were all mates and decided we wanted to do some gigs around in London in some pubs. Originally just for a laugh but when people kept coming back it got serious.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Baker: It varies but we tend to write on the road and gather allot of ideas before we hit the studio to record anything. That way we build a book of ideas over time. Basically we don’t rush the writing part. Recording however we do quick try and cut it all in a couple of days to maximize the energy on the record.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song on the current album? How was it written?
Baker: “We fall to pieces†it was written on an upright piano one morning. The idea came together really quick. Two weeks later it was on the album.
Review Fix: What did you learn from the last album? How did it affect this one?
Baker: Don’t procrastinate. Just do it. And mix it fast. Doesn’t matter if a guitar is too loud or a vocal a bit quiet just get it out and capture the energy.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to do someone who’s never heard you?
Baker: We are the bastard children of The Specials and The Clash, well in our own minds we are.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Baker: Positively is preferable.
Review Fix: Why is this new album special?
Baker: Because it rocks! Plus we have gone back to our roots of less is more production wise.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2018?
Baker: Lots and lots of touring so look out for us on the road.
