Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Louie Fontaine who discusses his origin in music, new album, The Sun Ain’t Black and his upcoming tour with Samantha Fish.
About Louie Fontaine:
Louie Fontaine’s album, The Sun Ain’t Black, is the culmination of three decades of experience playing and recording a wide variety of music. The Sun Ain’t Black is primarily an Americana record with blues, country and even art rock finding their way onto the disc.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Louie Fontaine: Listing to my brother’s records with my uncle when I was 12 I bought a guitar with Rick Heart but could not play so I bought a bass instead. I started to write songs after a couple of years and fast found out that’s what I want to do.
Review Fix: What are your influences?
Fontaine: I like good songs no really matter what genre, Blues, rock or whatever. Bob Dylan is one of my heroes.I love John Hiatt, JJ Cale, Tom Waits, Neil Young just to name a few.
Review Fix: How has your sound evolved from when you first started singing?
Fontaine: I was a natural born singer. I slowly made Louie Fontaine. When there is a strong storyline in a song, it gives me more freedom to fool around with my vocals.
Review Fix: What makes your brand of music special?
Fontaine: Me.
Review Fix: Why do you think people should enjoy it?
Fontaine: The songs are compelling – I’ve been writing songs for 25 years and I like to think that I got good at it.
Review Fix: What inspired The Sun Ain’t Black (The album)?
Fontaine: I wrote the entire album all alone in my Norwegian cabin. I was inspired to write story songs by people that I bumped into. Women are always good to write about. Many of my songs are true stories and others are made up.
Review Fix: Is there a story behind “Ain’t the Right Girl For You Girl”?
Fontaine: Yes. It’s about a girlfriend who leaves me for another girl, but I’m ok with that just suggest she find a better girlfriend because the one that she has is mean. We just finished the video last night, so you will see how these two ladies gang up on me.
Review Fix: How do you want that song to affect people?
Fontaine: I want them to smile and get goosebumps.
Review Fix: How does it feel to tour with Samantha Fish?
Fontaine: Great. I like Samantha as a person and she is a killer player. It will be a good tour I’m very thankful she is taking me along.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2018?
Fontaine: Play, play, play, and play.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Fontaine: I started already writing so I guess another CD and a January tour with Lord Bishop.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
Fontaine: Come see the show!
