NXT Coverage: Building Stories for Takeover

With Takeover just a few weeks away, NXT Creative is beginning to build several key moments. Some interesting storyline developments in Tommaso Ciampa become a credible heel, as well as Candice LeRae’s intent on defending her husband’s honor- and it was a fun night of NXT action. Add in a Pete Dunne match and a rare smile from Aleister Black and there was definitely enough quality moments in the near-hour show.

Matches:

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match: SAnitY: Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe vs. Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli: Moss and Sabbatelli tried to use their power, but Wolfe and Young are just a much better team. Sanity got the win with the Belly-to-Back Suplex/Neckbreaker combination.

Dakota Kai vs. Lacey Evans: Kai stole the match with a Rollup, but was soon confronted by Shayna Baszler. Soon enough, Ember Moon hit the ring and she and Kai were able to put the bully in her place.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match: Street Profits: Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins vs. Heavy Machinery: Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight: DDT from Dawkins and a Frog Splash from Ford gave The Profits the win in an unspectacular, but serviceable tag team encounter.

WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne vs. Adam Cole w/NXT Tag Team Champions Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly: Just when Dunne had the match in hand, O’Reilly and Fish stormed the ring to get the match thrown out. Luckily for Dunne, Roderick Strong made the save to end the show.
