Review Fix Exclusive: Inside ‘Immortal Redneck’

Review Fix chats Crema co-founder Enrique Paños who discusses “Immortal Redneck,” an upcoming rogue-infused Xbox One and PlayStation 4 shooter. Detailing its origin, gameplay and goals, lets us know why it’s a unique indie title.

About the Game:

One mummified redneck, more than 50 weapons, 100 game-changing scrolls, seven different player classes, three pyramids full of mythological monsters to conquer, and only one life to do it with. Purchase skills and classes between runs so no death feels wasted. Enjoy hyperkinetic FPS action while finding out why the redneck was chosen for resurrection.

Review Fix: How was this game born?

Enrique Paños: My associate and I love old school FPS games. 2 years ago we played a lot of rogue-lites, so we thought the two genres could work well together. We saw others FPS rogue-lites (just a few) but we wanted to do something different.

Review Fix: What makes this game special?

Paños: I think Immortal Redneck nails old school FPS feel and that feeling that is missed in all the modern FPS games. Also, I haven’t seen other game using the Rogue Legacy progression system, and it’s a really cool mechanic.

Review Fix: What games from the past have influenced it?

Paños: The list is huge… we took many things from many games: Redneck Rampage, Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Serious Sam, Rogue Legacy, Enter the Gungeon, Spelunky… and I think the list goes on, I forgot all the times we said, “”ey, look how cool this game resolves this issue!”

Review Fix: What inspired the art?

Paños: Mainly Zelda. But our artist team is obsessed with Nintendo’s art style.

Review Fix: What did you learn during the development process?

Paños: Making a good game is hard, and it’s even harder to finish it!

Review Fix: Any fun stories?

Paños: I’m starting to think our studio is boring because nothing really “fun” happens! I don’t want to say “nothing” because that would be rude…People seem to forget that making a game is hard work. I suppose finishing the game was exciting!

Review Fix: Bottom line- Why must someone play it?

Paños: Because it has the two things we think are essential in a video game, it’s very fun, and it’s addictive. Try it, you won’t regret it.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Paños: Right now we are preparing a Kickstarter for our next project, It’s our most ambitious game, so we are really excited.
