Paradiso #5 Review: Entertaining From Start to Finish

For some, the past is best forgotten, however, what if you can’t even remember it and are desperately trying to figure out what your purpose in life is?

Written by Ram V and drawn by Devmalya Pramanik, Paradiso is set in a world that was destroyed by a great technological cataclysm and Jack Kryznan, the amnesiac protagonist of the series, goes on a voyage to the titular city to find who is he and what does the future hold for him. Paradiso Issue #5 is perfect for readers looking for suspense and excitement as Jack goes on a journey of mystery, thrills and action.

For Issue #5, V takes Jack and his crew of Vance, Noira and Karin to the underbelly of Paradiso, where the city has more obstacles and secrets for them. However, while Jack is searching for his past, it appears that Karin is holding out on some secrets of her own. Issue #5 is based on the newly formed crew and their need to trust one another. Whether it is Jack or somebody else, each character is fully developed as they have their own personality and position of the group. Jack, as already told, is the determined leader and seeks out the answers to his mysterious past. Karin is the knowledgeable scavenger who is the tour guide of the crew, as she knows nearly every twists and turns of the city, while Vance acts as the cynical muscle who can take out any vermin or threat that group encounters and finally Noira, the tag-along kid who searches for a better life in Paradiso.

Every page turned is a page of uncertainty and tension as it keeps you hooked and leaves you wondering what is going to happen next as you travel with these characters.

Artist Praminik and colorist Alba Cardona Gil bring Parasido to life with their stylistic art choices. Parasido is set in a destroyed world with humanity on the verge of extinction, so of course, everything should appear bleak and full of despair along with the characters looking shady and tired.

Inspired by the post-apocalyptic genre, the characters and landscape looked harden and tough, while at times, it can appear to be bright and colorful. One example is when Karin goes underground and sees the colorful circuits of a forgotten laboratory against a dark background and sees rows of tubes that are brightly lit green and contain unknown human-like creatures inside.

Paradiso may not be the paradise that Jack was searching for, but if adventure, suspense, thrills and even horrors are what you are looking for, then this issue is just for you.
