Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Krysta Youngs, who discusses her latest track, “Better When You’re High,†a collaboration with another up and coming musician, Wax.
Review Fix: What inspired this track?
Krysta Youngs: I love making music with friends. Especially when the songs are created organically. About six months ago I pulled up to my friend Davy Nathan’s house for a session … I was 10 minutes early (which hardly ever happens) because I like to be exactly on time or 5 min late. As I’m walking up the driveway to get to the front door I noticed that the garage door was open and Wax was inside the studio with his guitar. So per usual, I decided to go hang out / bust his balls / write as many hooks as we could in five minutes before my session started. “Better When You’re High†was written that day. By the time I got out of my session Wax had come up with more lyrics for the hook and it was a wrap. I love shit like that… creating with friends & writing about real stuff. I especially like doing it with Wax … but I like doing it better when he’s high no, seriously, I like him better when he’s high.Â
Review Fix: What was it like to work with Wax?
Youngs: He’s hands down a musical genius.  I don’t say that lightly.  I always learn something from him and the process of writing and recording “Better When You’re High†was no different.  He vocal produced me on the hook and made sure I sang it exactly how he heard it in his head.  I have a lot of respect for him and can’t wait for what’s to come.Â
Review Fix: Any fun stories?
Youngs: Sometimes we go to Palm Springs and do Palm Springy type things.  There’s this amazing place called Del Marcos Hotel.  It’s like walking straight into the 1950’s … our song would actually fit perfectly into the fantasy you’re creating in your head right now.Â
Review Fix: How do you want this song to affect people?
Youngs: We want to make people smile for three minutes and seven seconds. If they put that shit on repeat they can smile all day long.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Youngs: We’re going to keep making music together, probably hit a yoga class or two and wait for the song to land in a major movie!Â
