Review Fix chats with OptiMystic, who details the creative process and goals behind his new single, “Dream Alive.†A veteran of the music game for over a decade, OptiMystic believes this is thework that gets him the attention he deserves.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
OptiMystic: It all kicked off with my father, he was a drummer in a band so he got me into music early. I feel in love with hip-hop at the age of 6 and was breakdancing and rapping the lyrics of Public Enemy, Arrested Development, Run DMC etc. It just grew from there.
Review Fix: What makes this new single special to you?
OptiMystic: I chose this as the first single as it really does portray me as an artist and where I am at with my music. Keeping dreams alive is most definitely a familiar theme to my personal soundtrack of life. I am no stranger to hip-hop, I have been creating and working in the underground scene for some time now, but truly it is the passion and love I have for the art that keeps my optimistic drive going. This single represents that all perfectly.
Review Fix: You’ve been working super hard for nearly a decade to develop your style. How is this release a culmination of all your hard work?
OptiMystic: Well that’s just exactly it, it’s been all the hard work and dedication that has brought me to this evolution of the craft I have been mastering. ‘Salty Waterz’ is no doubt the mountaintop of all the projects I have worked on, from start to finish I am very proud of this album and of all the others who were involved. The growth and maturity of my style is shown and heard throughout this release.
Review Fix: How do you want this song to affect people?
OptiMystic: I just want the people to hear the behind the scenes of an artist, not all the glamour and glitz, but the drive and passion of artists that follow their dreams and for the right reasons. Not necessarily the struggle and pain but also the love and gain.
Review Fix: What did you learn about yourself through the creation process?
OptiMystic: That’s a tough question… I have been at it for so long that I have developed and grown in many different ways. I do feel a big one is what I was in it for, really learning and knowing my inner desires, and what I wanted out of it all. Which in the end was just to have created a banging hip-hop album that I was proud of, and Salty Waterz is definitely it. Also understanding that balance of light & shadow which is also a reoccurring theme in my life and music, but I won’t get too deep into that one.
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of the year?
OptiMystic: I’m gonna push and promote this album firstly, but I also have two other albums that are almost complete. I’ve been working with one of my oldest friends on the Protektahz album, and also a new friend in my life at the moment we worked on the Renegades of Raw album so we can take it to the stage. So I have been a very busy emcee haha.
Review Fix: What’s next?
OptiMystic: I think I’m also going to ease up a little since I been going flat out, enjoy the release and putting the music out there, but also taking some time for my loved ones more often.
