Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies vs. Veterans Episode Seven Recap

It’s another high octane, sweat-inducing episode of “Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies VS Veterans.” Just be careful with what you touch or else you’ll break out in a nasty rash.

This episode started with the chefs going outside again. Here, Ramsay asked the chefs what is the key element of running a kitchen smoothly. The answer was teamwork. To show this off, Ramsay had a racecar do some donuts and then have a pit crew come in to do their thing.

The day’s challenge was for each chef to cook a dish, (spaghetti meatballs marinara, veal scallopini piccata, crispy fried chicken, shrimp and grits and cioppino) and after a certain time, Ramsay would ask one chef from each kitchen to stop cooking and wait behind the pass.

This is something that Ramsay had done on previous seasons to prove how important teamwork is. It also showcases how weak the lone chef is. It backfired because all the chefs did well, even with the reduced team members.

At tasting, the best dish in each category gets the point. It went back forth between the Red and Blue with the fried chicken and the spaghetti and meatballs receiving a point to each team. It was tied 4-4 with Ariel’s cioppino getting the win for the Blue because Trev forgot to put in the fish. What made it worse was the Trev was the first person to plate. Ramsay even had him time himself to see how long it took to put the fish on the plate. That was a mistake that someone with Trev’s experience should not have done.

While the Blue spent the day go karting (not much happening except Kanae getting a bit too into it) the Red had to shuck corn. Also, Trev broke out in an allergic rash. It wasn’t bad enough to stop, though. Scotley gave him hell throughout the punishment by calling him “baby girl.”

While there was no dinner service, Ramsay had a different idea to cut another chef. He had the dining room made to look like a farmer’s market and told the chefs that the first three chefs that left the kitchen earlier that day had to cook for their lives. For the Blue, it was Gizzy (who didn’t cook because the Blue had an extra chef,) Roe and Heather. The Red was Bret, Jose and Scotley. The chef with the worst dish had to go home.

At first, it seemed like Roe was going to be eliminated with Bret and Heather doing better, but then Gizzy’s bass was deemed the worst. It was down to Scotley and Gizzy with Scotley’s dry cured ahi tuna being deemed the better dish, eliminating Gizzy. That was a shock considering how much negativity Ramsay had to say about Scotley’s dish because he used lentils.

Gizzy had some string points early on but she proved that she was weak. Anyone who was paying attention could tell that she was not going to win or last long. This is yet another mediocre episode with not much entertaining happening. Trev should be a lot better than this. He’s not going to last much longer if he keeps this up.
