Review Fix Exclusive: Jackie Venson Talks ‘Keep On’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Jackie Venson, who discusses her new single, “Keep On,” and more.

Review Fix: What inspires you lately?

Jackie Venson: Life and my emotions relating to the things that I see and that happen in my life.

Review Fix: How has your sound changed over the years?

Venson: I started off playing blues only, I had just started learning the guitar so I did what I knew. Now I have had some more years, experiences, and influences under my belt so I have come to a place where I don’t like to be put in a box. I am most comfortable being free, hopping genres and expressing myself in unlimited ways, musically.

Review Fix: What have been some important lessons learned?

Venson: Stick to your guns. The right opportunities always find me, the opportunities and people that suit me best will always find me. I trust myself and I have faith in who I am and I don’t let anything affect that.

Review Fix: What is the story behind “Keep On”?

Venson: It’s a story of falling in love, of the exhilarating but sometimes scary experience of that. It can be scary taking a chance on someone or on an experience but overall a life without chance or risk is not a life well lived.

Review Fix: How do you want this track to be remembered?

Venson: As a hopeful, inspiring, and emotional tale of a life well lived.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Venson: Blues, soul, pop, r&b is the most I can narrow it down to at this time.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Venson: Live is always different from the studio. The energy of the crowd mixing with my energy is impossible to experience any other way.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2018?

Venson: To write and release more music and to tour bigger, better, and more efficiently.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Venson: More music, more touring, potential new partnerships, more life!
