Review Fix chats with Leaving Eden’s Eric Gynan, who discusses the band’s origin, creative process, new album and goals for the future.
Review Fix: How did this project come together?
Eric Gynan: Myself and Eve are the co-founders of Leaving Eden and we started many years ago. We thought it would be cool to name the band Leaving Eden based on the fact that this whole planet being the Garden of Eden is full of corruption deceit and Hate and we thought wouldn’t it be nice to go somewhere else?  Thus Leaving EdenÂ
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Gynan: Maybe a little bit here a little bit there Of some booze and what have you, to get  in the mood. Then I like to kind of get in a meditative state and communicate with the universe. Kind of close my eyes with my hands up in the air try to get a connection and then I just listen and the songs come quite simply.   Sometimes the songs come in a dream so I have to be able to get myself up and record what I’m listening to instantly otherwise it’s another forgotten song. Â
Review Fix: What’s your standout song?
Gynan: Right now it would be the title track off our Out of the Ashes album titled Out of the Ashes (Recorded/mixed By Johnny K. (Disturbed, Pop Evil, Staind, 3 Doors Down,) Mastered by Brad Blackwood (Sevendust, Dave Mathews, Adelitas way, Korn) and Produced by myself, Dark Star Records/Sony Music.  I think the song is crafted in a way the comes together quite nicely, it’s predictable and the listener can sing along when listening for the first time. It’s a rocking heavier tune with some nice melody and harmony.
Review Fix: How was it written?
Gynan: We were on tour actually and the song came to me. I could hear it pretty much produced in my mind’s eye so I just had to put the pieces together and of course had nothing but time traveling so it worked out great.
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2018?
Gynan: We have some songs off of the Out of the Ashes album in some movies/TV series to be released this year and next year. Â “SKIES OF GREY” We plan on Touring as well. Â New album descending
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Gynan: I really like this question.  Our songs of really geared towards reality things that pretty much happened to us.  Reality of course comes with the good and the bad so that is also reflected and sometimes I may feel differently about something so that is also reflected in different songs, where I might feel one way one day and then a year later I could feel a different way and quite the opposite of what I already wrote but that’s also based on reality.  With that said there is a lot of Hope intertwined with great pain that life has to offer. I guess I feel that people can relate to the pain but can also relate to the hope. The message isn’t always great but it may be something that somebody happens to be going through at that time in their own lives. I guess I’m looking for then, the connection with the listener where they can relate one way or the other.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Gynan: Rock and roll baby!! Yeah man like I said we continue recording, we continue touring and we continue with the movies TV series Etc. We’re heading down the east coast of the USA from New England to Florida so that should be lots of fun.
We released a single from Thin Lizzy called Jailbreak (Recorded/mixed By Johnny K. (Disturbed, Pop Evil, Staind, 3 Doors Down,) Mastered by Brad Blackwood (Sevendust, Dave Mathews, Adelitas way, Korn) and Produced by myself, reinterpreted by Leaving Eden. Jailbreak is going to be on our new album to be released October 19th 2018 again called Descending through Dark Star records/Sony music worldwide. Â “JAILBREAK”
I’m excited about this album because it was recorded and Leaving Eden Studios. We were able to take all the time we needed and really craft This Album to exactly what we wanted it to be. I did a premix on it and sent it off to Bob St John for the Final Mix and Mastering. Â Bob is a Grammy award-winning engineer and has done bands like Duran Duran, Extreme, Collective Soul, Steven Tyler. Such a great guy to work with too.Â
