It’s time for the blue and red brands to go to war. Survivor Series has produced some of the most memorable moments in all of WWE history. This year, the card has taken a massive blow with Becky Lynch going down with an injury thanks to a stiff right from Nia Jax on Smackdown last week. With NXT Takeover: War Games 2 producing three potential five-star matches last night, the main roster must produce some mind-blowing matches if they want to follow that card.
Matches:
Team Smackdown (Naomi, Carmella, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, and Asuka) vs. Team Raw (Mickey James, Tamina, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, and Bayley) Women’s Survivor Series 5-on-5 Elimination Match:
Chaos ensued immediately with both teams chomping at the bit. The red brand eliminated Naomi quickly thanks to a Superkick from Tamina. But Smackdown fired back with a sudden Roll-Up by Carmella taking out the second-generation superstar. Every time Jax got involved the crowd would erupt into boos. Jax was the sole survivor of the match, capitalizing on Asuka’s elimination of Sasha Banks with a series of Leg Drops and a Samoan Drop, pinning Asuka and earning the victory for team Raw.
Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins vs. U.S. Champion Shinsuke Nakamura:
These two workhorses lock horns for the first time, and the WWE Universe couldn’t be more excited for it. The match started slow, as Nakamura and Rollins attempted to play mind games and get in the head of their opponent. Both men took a beating, trading brutal strikes during the entire bout. Rollins looked particularly strong, kicking out of a Kinshasa to the back of the head. The Stomp earned Raw their second win of the night.
The Bar w/The Big Show vs. AOP w/Drake Maverick:
Can you say hoss fight? AOP took control early, brutalizing Cesaro with their savage brand of offense. Maverick distracted The Bar by…well, pissing his pants. AOP capitalized, slamming Sheamus with a Neck Breaker/ Powerbomb combination for three. Raw’s dreams of a clean sweep are still alive.
Buddy Murphy vs. Mustafa Ali for the Cruiserweight Championship:
The match kicked into high gear immediately as Ali hit Murphy with a 450 Senton from the top turnbuckle to the outside. Both competitors left it all in the ring, but the champ retained his title with Murphy’s Law.
Team Raw (Bobby Lashley w/ Lio Rush, Finn Balor, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, and Braun
Strowman) vs. Team Smackdown (The Miz, Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe, Rey Mysterio, and Shane McMahon) Men’s Survivor Series 5-on-5 Elimination Match:
Would the egos of Team Raw get in the way of the clean sweep? McIntyre gave Raw the advantage instantly with a Claymore to the jaw of Joe, met with chants of “bullshit!†by the crowd. The red team could not work together, fighting with each other throughout the match. A Six-One-Nine to Balor evened things up for Smackdown. The blue brand’s solidarity proved to be advantageous, as McMahon eliminated Ziggler with a Coast-to-Coast. Unfortunately, Smackdown got these hands. Strowman decapitated McMahon with a mid-air Lariat, and then decimated the remaining members of the blue team, eliminating Mysterio, Hardy, Miz, and McMahon with Powerslams. Raw is up four-zip.
Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair:
It’s a shame that Lynch isn’t cleared to compete as she is on the run of a lifetime. But if anyone can fill the fiery shoes of The Man, it’s The Queen. This was a war, not a match. Both women brought their A-game, countering move after move. A nasty elbow from Flair busted Rousey open half way through the bout. The contest would be cut short though because Flair snapped, brutalizing Rousey with a kendo stick and Natural Selection onto a steel chair. But Charlotte wasn’t finished. She trapped Rousey’s head in a chair and stomped on it, adding insult to injury. Though it’s by disqualification, the sweep continues.
Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan:
Why D-Bry, why? Last week, Bryan stole the WWE Championship from AJ Styles, turning heel in the process. The question is, would his new mentality be enough to fend off the Beast? Bryan went into this match with a strategy, immediately trying to get in his opponent’s head. But Lesnar has one answer for all his problems, Suplexes. The Universal Champion tossed the smaller man around like a rag-doll. Lesnar accidentally flung Bryan into the ref with an F-5, and the new WWE Champ capitalized by kicking the Beast Incarnate where it hurts the most, putting him right back in the match. Lesnar almost tapped out to the Yes! Lock, but managed to counter with another F-5, finally putting Bryan down, and completing the sweep for Raw.AW
