Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Marlene Oak, who lets us know what makes her a special performer.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Marlene Oak: I started to write my own songs when I was fourteen and played solo for a couple of years. Later on, I started playing with other musicians and now I’ve got a band together.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Oak: I have always loved listening to music and I got inspired by other artist and musicians, like Johnny Cash, Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Janis Joplin and more… The list is long. I find it hard to talk about some stuff and that’s one of the main reasons why I’m writing songs, cause it’s a way for me to ventilate feelings and thoughts.Â
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Oak: I’m just writing songs and play music and that’s the only thing I want to do, it’s my life.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Oak: It can be anything actually, my surroundings, things that I’ve experienced, relations, people and other artist and musicians etc.
Review Fix: What makes this album special?
Oak: It’s just music, if people like my songs it would make me happy.Â
Review Fix: What’s the standout track?
Oak: It’s hard to tell cause all the songs are very different from each other, especially a song named ‘Silver Moon,’ it’s a pretty dark song but I want to write about everything.
Review Fix: What’s on your musical bucket list?
Oak: I want to travel around the world and get new experiences. It would be a dream come true to go on tour with my band.Â
I would love to work with other great writers and producers outside Stockholm, lt would be fun to go to Nashville and write new songs/records.Â
Make an album with Rick Rubin.
