Glorybots: Nomad Single Review: Neo Dark Wave

Dark Wave is a genre some would consider antiquated. With bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Coal Chamber, Goth music has been pushed into a harder sounding industrial and metal realm. With Skrillex, some have even embraced the Graver (Goth Raver) heavy dubstep or electronic style. Glorybots, however, brings back the dark, mysterious and ambient legacy of artists such as The Creatures and The Cocteaus with a breath of modern fresh air.

The single “Nomad” offers a sinister dark wave beat. The eerie ambient introduction followed by the muffled, distorted guitars invokes a feeling of groovy uneasiness. The muffled vocals are offset by the haunting reverb, which is the perfect compliment to the darkness of the track. The high-pitched ambient noises and instrumentals weave malevolently through the track to perfectly mix into the aesthetic. Lyrically Nomad offers a look into an oppressive narrative, in which he is “Born to leave” and “Forced to leave, I’m a runaway.” The gloomy subject matter perfects the Dark Wave feel, while the mixing on track drives it home.

Nomad proves to be an eclectic track that uses nostalgia as leverage. The modern mixing with the retro aesthetic bring Dark Wave back into the minds of the modern audience under the Glorybots “Dark Alien Pop” moniker. Nomad is an eerie and clever track that will no doubt prove to be timeless due to its inspired nature. Everyone should give Nomad a listen as it is the perfect way to kick off the new year in music
