Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Kamryn Marie, who discusses her up and coming career and new single, “Baby Girl.â€
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Kamryn Marie: I started singing before I could talk. I grew up participating in as many musicals, choirs, and productions as possible. I was actually a part of an Honors Choir when I was in 5th grade, which was an amazing experience. I have always loved writing lyrics, but didn’t do much with them until late 2016 when I decided to truly put my words into songs. I had no intention on actually releasing my songs, but my producer Stephen Antonelli of Songbuilder Studios pushed me to and I don’t regret it at all. Once that first song “Together†was released, it was like I couldn’t stop creating and releasing music.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Marie: Generally I will come to the studio with lyrics prepared, but only a vague idea for a melody. Stephen is very helpful with adding a melody and bringing the song to life. This song, “Baby Girl†is the first one that I wrote both the lyrics and melody for. It was, in fact, written in probably 10 minutes. The lyrics flooded out of me already in a melody and I was in utter shock. I made sure to record myself singing the lyrics so that when I brought it into the studio, we were ready to go.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Marie: Other musicians inspired me to be true to myself and explore what my voice has to offer. When I started recording, I was shy, insecure about my voice, and unsure of what I was trying to accomplish. I was not as risky with my voice and didn’t hit those notes that I wanted to because I was nervous that it would not sound good. Today, I take a lot more risks and have a lot more confidence in myself and my music. I owe that to Stephen. I am also inspired by the hard times in my life. Many of my songs are written about things that I have personally experienced that may not be what others would write and sing about. I like to keep my music full of raw emotion that people can truly relate to on a deeper level.
Review Fix: What makes “Baby Girl†a special track?
Marie: As stated before, this is the first song that I wrote both the lyrics and melody for. It was also written after a realization that my father was reacting to my engagement with anger, when in reality he is just scared to let me go. I wanted this song to show my parents that while I am heading off to do my own thing, in my new life, with my new love, I won’t be far away and will always love them. The song is also releasing with a music video on the same day that was shot by the talented Josh and Kevin of J. Lockhart Media.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Marie:Â I try to convey as much emotion as possible in my music. I have been experimenting in a few different genres from pop to EDM to
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Marie: I am currently not performing shows, but I am considering it for the future.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2019?
Marie: There will be another album releasing later this year. Stephen and I have been working extremely hard on it and we are excited to share it with y’all.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Marie: More music, more lyrics, more releases, more music videos, possibly more than just recording.
