BReview Fix chats with Electric Radio Kings Stacey David Blades who discusses the band’s latest single, “Back to Black†and more.
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Stacey David Blades: Paul and I have been recording together, on and off since 2013. We were the last two artists to work with the legendary producer Andy Johns before his untimely death. Paul contacted me to put a project together and once we started writing, it was magic! We formed the band in July of 2017.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Blades: It usually starts with a guitar riff from either Paul or myself. Or sometimes we’ll both have finished or semi-finished songs. Paul and I have amazing songwriting chemistry.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Blades: All kinds of music from metal, rock to pop. We love bands like Cheap Trick, Beatles, Stones, STP, Candlebox, Soundgarden, Hellyeah, Godsmack, Ghost, Foo Fighters. It’s kind of a melting pot of styles.
Review Fix: What makes “Back to Black†a special track?
Blades: It has an infectious vibe, melody and chorus. That’s what had us hooked from the get go but re-doing it was a bitch! Thank goodness for Mike Gillies, who really turned this version into something epic.
Review Fix: What was Behind the decision to cover Amy Winehouse?
Blades: It was Paul’s idea. I was actually against it! I loved the song but thought “how in the hell are we going to do this justice!” It’s one of my favorite tracks from our album Purrr now.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Blades: Well if Foo Fighters, Cheap Trick, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver and GNR had a baby it would be Electric Radio Kings!
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Blades: We are a little more raw live. We are a real rock band, but it’s not that much of a stray from the production on the album. We really try to capture exactly what we recorded.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2019?
Blades: Become the biggest band for 2019 and beyond. We are hungry and ready to kick ass.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Blades: We are going to shop for an agent and management as the album will be coming out at the end of March 2019. We are ready to tour and spread ERK to the world.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
Blades: We have really made some great progress in two years and would like to thank each and everyone, press, radio, and especially the fans for their support!
