Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter and guitarist Freeman, who discusses his origins in music and more.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Freeman: Heya. Well, I started listening as a kid and been hooked ever since. Music is a passion. I adore listening, it gets right under my skin and to the very core of my being ! I first picked up a guitar at 20 and taught myself the chords. Painstaking but worth it. When I started writing songs I was in 7th heaven.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Freeman: I just pick up the guitar and play. I allow. Let stuff flow. Noel Gallagher describes it as fishing….you cast your rod and see what you catch. As with fishing, when you catch a biggie, its a fabulous feeling. Ver meditative, very soulful.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Freeman: Truth. Love. Connection. Freedom. Ups. Downs. Bad. Good. Im inspired by life and my own twists and turns. I like music thats as real and authentic as possible
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Freeman: A helping of ‘70s decadent retro rock n roll, a dollop of good time Brit-pop catchiness and a side order of meaningful, melancholic Americana
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Freeman: They are looser and more ‘in the moment.’ They are vibrant like the recordings and I tend to sashay about the stage like a possessed wild cat
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2019?
Freeman: Spreading the love ! Getting the music out there as much as poss. We have a big VEVO deal for the first 4 vids and will be visiting S Africa, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina… I am very excited and very grateful. I got a fantastic team in place and everyone is pushing really hard and getting on really well.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Freeman: S Africa. Two episodes of a big reality show there and a music video filmed with one of the stars. 80 million viewers apparently ! Wow.
