Music is expressive. Though confined to genre, an artist will always find a way to express themselves in their art. Mark Huff shows off this talent in his new preview EP. The EP offers a look into his next album, coming in 2020, and proves that Huff is a rocker on a mission. These two tracks each have their own unique personality, brought together by the charm of Mark Huff.
The first track is “Made By Hand.” The track is lyrically very contemplative and otherworldly with lines such as “walking on water feels just like land, when everything is made by hand” during the chorus. Others such as “voice is like a mirror, I need your time and touch” followed by “as your beauty becomes clearer, I fear it may be too much” offer a much more mysterious take on these ideas. The instrumentals here are nice, with a guitar that freely chimes in with solid riffs on top of a peaceful piano and mellow drums. It allows the vocals to shine and the track to hit hard when the instrumentals go heavier. A fun track with a great feel.
The next track is “Breaking Through” which sounds like it was ripped straight out of a hit 80’s movie soundtrack. The bouncy beat and lively vocals prop up the nostalgic synths to keep it retro. The guitar solo solidifies the retro rock charm with a moment that will leave you headbanging right before the end. The lyrics are also defiantly confident and deserves a listen to hear why he delivers “you can’t break me now!” With such strength. The track is fresh when taken after “Made by Hand” and having them side by side shows off the musicianship of Mark Huff.
The two offerings here are pleasant and unique from one another. The personality of each track here is on full display, with the artistry and musicianship of Mark Huff backing them up. These two tracks give an interesting insight on the upcoming album. If each track is unique from one another as these two are from each other, it is one to be anticipated. In the meantime, give these a listen. They are worth your time.
