Review Fix Exclusive: Skye Wallace Talks ‘Body Lights the Way’

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Skye Wallace, who discusses her influences, goals for 2020 and thoughts on her new single, “Body Lights the Way.”

Review Fix: How was 2019 for you?

Sky Wallace: It was my busiest year yet!  We released a new record I was very proud of, toured Canada extensively, including a coast-to-coast tour with Matt Mays, toured Europe, played some dream festivals; it was an absolute dream and I felt so supported by my dream team and bandmates.

Review Fix: What does this new track mean to you?

Wallace: The track is one of my favourites to play live and I wanted to brand new video to reflect the exciting rock n roll vibes that I feel when playing it.  The video features a curling match gone awry at the Dawson City Curling Club (from when I wrote the song in the Yukon) and a rock n roll show on ice at the Whitby Curling Club (where I first learned to curl when I was little). I’ve always wanted to incorporate my love of curling and music and this was the perfect opportunity.

Review Fix: How was it written?

Wallace: This song was written during my stint as Dawson City Music Festival’s songwriter in residence where I went up to the Yukon and wrote for a month in one of the most beautiful and remote places I’ve ever been to. I wrote half of the new record there and curled a whole bunch while I was there. The community is absolutely magical up there.

Review Fix: How has your sound changed over the past few years?

Wallace: I started out more on the folk side of things, but I started adding more and more distortion as the years went by. Now it’s a full-on rock sound with a five-piece band for the live show (featured in the video) and I’m friggen in love with it.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?

Wallace: I’m so excited to bring the live show to new stages and new audiences and to keep working away on a sound I’m super proud of. We’re also going into the studio again soon!

Review Fix: What’s next?

Wallace: I just finished writing a whole bunch of new songs and we’re currently demoing them. I’m super pumped to start recording a new record soon. (Stay tuned for more releases in the not-so-distant future)

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Wallace: Thanks for having me!  Check out the new song and video and let me know what you think of the rock n roll curling brawl!
