Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Binny, who discusses his origin in music and new single, “Retrograde.â€
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Binny: I grew up with a musical parent so it’s always been around me. I started taking piano lessons at age 5 and sang throughout my entire life, including in school choirs and musical productions.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Binny: I collect ideas for songs during my day to day. Sometimes a lyric could pop up when I’m driving or at the grocery store so I write it down in my phone really quick. That way, when I sit down to start creating, I have ideas that I can build on. I also listen to a lot of music and get inspired by different sounds or voices that I hear.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Binny: I get inspired when I’m able to reflect on whatever emotion I’m feeling. I also get inspired by conversations I have with friends or family with things that they’re going through and their emotions. I’m a pretty empathetic person so I have the ability to feel their emotions and translate that into a song if needed. I
Review Fix: What does music mean to you?
Binny: Music has been my friend when I had none. It’s comforted me through dark times and has been my soundtrack through happy times. Regardless of what happens in this life, I know that I will always be making music.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Binny: I would say my music is vibey. An easy listen sonically and with a lot of feeling lyrically. Definitely in the pop/r&b realm.
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Binny: I feel like the emotion of my songs come through more authentically during live shows. It’s not about sounding perfect but connecting with people and sharing your story through your music. I can get pretty vulnerable through a live show but also put on an entertaining performance.
Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?
Binny: My latest single is about the side of you that someone else brings out. How someone may bring out the worst habits in you but you can’t stay away from that person despite realizing how crazy they make you.
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?
Binny: To continue putting out music that people connect with and hopefully start performing.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Binny: I’ve been working on more music and I’m hoping to release another single in the next coming months.
