Review Fix chats with Wasting Time’s Mike Quan, who discusses the band’s origin, goals for the future and standout work.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Mike Quan: The project started in the early 2000s by our singer/guitarist Vlad as a creative outlet for his songs. This initial lineup of the band was active until 2009. Vlad mostly took a break from music until 2017, when he played a solo, acoustic show and got the itch to play with a full band again. He found new members to round out the lineup and we’ve been kicking since.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Quan: Vlad writes the main structure of a song with lyrics, melodies and chords. The full band fleshes out the final arrangements of the songs during band practice.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Quan: Right now for me, “Sick Inside†is a standout song. We released it earlier this year as a stand-alone single on a whim, and it has a bit more of a classic rock-n-roll vibe to it than our other songs, which are closer to straight pop-punk. I enjoy playing the little bass solo during the instrumental break too. Â
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?
Quan: First off, we’re releasing a single on July 24th called, “My Limited French†with a video for it out in the following weeks. We also plan to have our second album out by the fall and that will be called, “Once More Without Feelingâ€. We’ll possibly perform live by the end of the year too if we’re permitted to.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Quan: We hope our music makes people want to twist and shout and singalong!
Review Fix: What’s next?
Quan: We plan to write more songs, keep practicing, and push our next single and next album when they get released later this year.
