Review Fix chats with Never Knew’s Blake Minton, who discusses the band’s origin, goals and the benefits that project has had on his life.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Blake Minton: This project started at the beginning of 2019. I really needed a better way to manage and cope with my mental health. This was a huge step forward in that process. I collaborate with a few other incredible musicians that really help bring my ideas to life.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Minton: Whatever I’m feeling, I act on that emotion and release all my energy into what I’m creating.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Minton: Right now the top streamed song is Luminous from the new EP ‘Internal Relapse’. This track is written about people that just don’t understand what you’re going through. The people that keep saying you’ll be fine, get over it. Then you think too deep into it, and just ask yourself, “are they right, am I that screwed up in the head and don’t understand, am I even normal like themâ€
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?
Minton: Just to share these new tracks and connect with as many people as possible.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Minton: I want them to know that it’s okay to not feel okay. The struggles they’re going through and the way they feel is normal.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Minton: I want to keep creating as much music as possible to share with whoever needs it. With the release of ‘Internal Relapse’ coming out back in May, there won’t be anything released for awhile. However, I’m always working on new tracks so there will definitely be something released in the near future.
