Review Fix Exclusive: Burry Talks ‘Figs & Apricots’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Burry, who discusses her origin in music and new EP.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Burry: I’ve been interested in music for as long as I can remember; piano lessons, choir, musicals, I think I signed up for everything I could. After university I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I took a year off and met some incredible people that inspired me to pursue music as a career.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Burry: I tend to always write lyrics first. I jot poems or thoughts down, and then I’ll work on chord progressions and try them out with the journal entries until it’s something I’m happy with.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Burry: I think you can find inspiration in anything. I have journals full of thoughts I may never use. I think I’m better at writing about the sadder and heavier topics, but the trick is making music about something that other people will also be able to relate to.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Burry: Music means everything to me. It’s comforting, it’s therapy, it’s an escape, it’s a way to express myself, and it’s the only thing I want to be doing for the rest of my life.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Burry: In terms of genre, I would describe my sound as Indie-Pop. My songs are all very lyrically driven, often about heavier topics, and then we write the music to be the complete opposite with an unforgettable energy.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Burry: Live shows are where I get to showcase my personality. That sounds weird, but it’s true. People see me everyday on social media, and don’t really know what I’m  like. It’s where I get to take all my hard work and show people how much I love what I’m doing. I don’t take it too seriously and am always having fun. God, I miss live shows.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Burry: My latest single 3 Birthdays is about my parents’ divorce and its effects, at any age. It’s about spending every birthday and holiday trying to navigate your parents’ separate plans, while wanting to make your own. Being nostalgic for a time when everyone was together.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

Burry: My goals for 2021 are to write loads more music, release more music, and maybe start getting back into live shows when it’s safe for us to do so.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Burry: I’m currently sitting back and enjoying the EP release, and all the kind words about our hard work. I’m also back in the studio and planning on releasing some new music sooner than you might think!
