Review Fix Exclusive: Chad Leduc Talks ‘Sasquatch: Klondike’

Review Fix chats with Chad Leduc, Illustrator and Co-creator Sasquatch: Klondike, to find out about his origin in comics and newest work, Sasquatch: Klondike.

Review Fix: How did you know a career in comics was for you?

Chad Leduc: Well, I didn’t know. When I was younger, I was enamored by the illustrations in comic books, G.I Joe and Transformers, Saturday morning cartoons! I loved the characters, stories designs and colours and used to create drawings of my own monsters, superheroes and soldiers in their respective action scenes. I was always amazed by the skills of comic book artists and their ability to draw characters and environments – That is what inspired me to take the next step in creating my own comic books. Sasquatch Klondike isn’t the 1st comic book idea that I created but its certainly the first follow through project haha! I’ve created other comics strips when living out West and more recently over this past summer. One comic was named Captn’D a parody based on people I knew. Older stuff like the Pink Penis which was altogether a different era and time in my life again a parody based on a friend named P. Ehnes… guess I spent many years drawing in a way that represented comic book art but in a more interpretive illustrative style.

Review Fix: Who inspires you creatively?

Leduc: I have many creative inspirations! Lets start off by thanking those who inspire me like my former mentors, teachers, fellow artists and friends alike! Some of my biggest influences over the years are my high school art teachers Moe and Herb my friend Andrew Tong, Ken Stacy and recently reunited Sheridan College classmate Casey Parsons. I have always been inspired by professionals like Art Adams, Jack Kirby, George Lucas, David Finch, Jimmy Reyes, Dr. Rocke Robert Marzullo, Frank Miller, Jim Lee and Mike Mignola.

Review Fix: What inspired Sasquatch?

Leduc: Sasquatch was inspired by the Sasquatch culture itself. I’ve always had a great interest in the topic and the study of these creatures – which I know from my own firsthand experience that they’re real! I’m not here to make you a believer or prove to you that they are real, that is something you need to discover for yourself. Based on my love for comics I wanted to create a comic book title that I was passionate about, so I came up with the idea of Sasquatch wars which I pitched to Johnny back in September 2020. I thought that a comic book based on encounters with these mysterious creatures throughout human history would be a fantastic story as a comic!

Review Fix: How is it different or special?

Leduc: I think this is different and special in many ways! Creating a comic book series entirely about Sasquatch is unique in itself – By digging deeper into the legend! The comic allows us to really explore the primal nature of these encounters. The fears, unknowns, and facts about these creatures, how they behave and reacted to humans as they made first contact!  I think the difference is in the pudding, and Johnny’s writing is really going to shine as the story unfolds in the coming six issues of Sasquatch: Klondike!

Review Fix: Who do you think will dig it the most?

Leduc: I really do believe that you don’t have to believe in Sasquatch in order to enjoy this book! I think this book can be enjoyed by anybody who enjoys awesome writing, fantastic illustration and great adventure. It’s definitely a niche topic which I think can be enjoyed by those who love horror, monsters, zombies and other similar comic titles that deal with adventure and mystery!

Review Fix: How do you want it to be remembered?

Leduc: I guess the way I think about it being remembered is awareness – If Sasquatch: Klondike gets people asking question about the unknown and to be conscious about the things that go bump in the night, we’ve all won. I believe the sasquatch topic helps us answer questions about our place as species on this planet and the primal connection to our ancient past and connection to the distant stars in our universe.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Leduc: I’d just like to take this time to thank all the supporters and fans of Sasquatch Klondike! We’re extremely excited to bring you new titles and storylines through tardigrade press.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Leduc: Well there are six books in the first installment of Sasquatch: Klondike! Currently we just finished our first Kickstarter campaign for issue 1. So after we finish doing our fulfillment of our reward tiers will continue working on issue 2 – through to issues 6. I have some interest in producing a superhero storyline based on characters I created called the Biologicals, as well creating alternate timelines in the Sasquatch universe! I’m extremely excited to announce that one of those titles and timelines is based on the landing of the Vikings in the new land… Sasquatch Vikings!

Review Fix: Where can people find out more?
