Review Fix Exclusive: Jon Crabb Talks Goals For 2021 And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter and guitarist Jon Crabb, who discusses his new project and goals for 2021.

Review Fix: How did the project start?

Jon Crabb: It was the breakup of my college band after we graduated, I decided to go solo and write, and record under my name. I did however manage to form a post-punk band called The Rioters, but lasted for only four years, which is the only longest I’ve ever been in a band. Right now, I’m just working as a solo artist.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Crabb: It’s going fine actually. Throughout a whole year of lockdown, it’s made me spend more time to improve my guitar playing and songwriting.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Crabb: I would say “Young Lost Rebel”, because I’ve always been familiar with the ‘rebel without a cause’ phase and identity. It’s just more interesting to me, because you never know what a person’s thinking and how no one is able to give them clear answers when they ask deep thoughtful questions. So I decided to write that all into a song from teenage experiences and the feeling of being torn within a radical establishment, between left and right. Occasionally I would write a political tune about something and would’ve made it my standout song, but I prefer not be too much of a political activist, except only when it’s serious.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

Crabb: Get back to gigging! Show must go on! That and hopefully form a new band, perhaps a rockabilly trio.

Review Fix: How do you want music to effect people?

Crabb: I want my music to be like a voice of ‘hope’ that will give listeners that positive assurance of knowing that no matter how much of an outcast you feel and how much society tries to take advantage of you, that you are not alone. Just like an act of solidarity to have a good long life, with music being your guide of entertainment and something that will always be there whenever someone asks to hear it.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Crabb: Well until the venues re-open, I’m going to write, record more songs and do more live stream performances. I have an upcoming new EP coming out called “Out with the Truth” which will be out on March 26th and you can pre-order it on my Bandcamp page.
