Review Fix Exclusive: Rags And Riches’ Tanner Whitt talks 2021 Goals And More

Review Fix chats with Rags And Riches’ Tanner Whitt, who discusses the band’s origin and goals for 2021.

About Rags and Riches:

RAGS AND RICHES are an adrenalized, American pop-rock band hailing from Lexington, Kentucky. Formed in 2017, the band features brothers Tanner and Peyton Whitt. Over the last four years, the band has discovered their unique sound, identity and aesthetic.

Combining influences from the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons and Thirty Seconds to Mars, the band deliver a modern Queen-esque sound while staying true to their desire of having no defining genre.

Their latest single “CROSSFIRE” is a mantra for staying mentally strong through life’s battles and anxieties. Written with fellow Kentucky musician Cody Morgan, the song gives two different views on this mantra, with Tanner explaining, “My verse was written from the perspective of how I let others’ words tear me down and Cody’s verse from the perspective of his internal voice tearing himself down through stress and anxiety.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

We both started at a young age playing music in church and with other bands. We kept progressing in both until we decided in 2017 to birth RAGS AND RICHES.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

It is constantly changing, but a lot of times I(Tanner) have a hook or Peyton has a beat started and we go from there. We never limit where the idea or concept can go.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Locations, Movies, and of course other music is always inspiring.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

It means the world to be honest. Everything we do revolves around music as a whole. Even when we are not making our own music we are discovering new artists or songs, or watching a movie and loving a new score.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Adrenalized Pop/Rock is the best way to describe our music. We always emphasize “Adrenalized” because we put so much energy and passion into the songs and performances.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

We try to keep the same amount of energy into both, but anyone who has seen us live would say they love the amount of energy and crowd engagement involved in the live shows.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Peyton and I (Tanner) had the title ‘CROSSFIRE’ and music created before Cody Morgan came into the studio to write with us. I(Tanner) had the idea to make it about allowing personal struggles and anxieties to become a part of who you are to reach your goals.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

We really want to get back out on tour and meet new faces. We miss meeting new people on the road and developing lifelong friends.

Review Fix: What’s next?

We have a ton of new music and videos releasing this year, so that is the focus at the moment. 2021 will be the most music we have released in one year.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Stay positive in everything YOU do. The world is a better place with YOU in it!
