Review Fix Exclusive: Next Door To Heaven’s Daria Mazunova Talks Origin in Music and More

Review Fix chats with Next Door To Heaven’s Daria Mazunova discusses the band’s origin, creative process and goals for 2021.

Review Fix: How did the project start?

Daria Mazunova: We started a band in 2014 in St Petersburg, Russia. Gene and I were already experienced musicians and got married a few months before that so that we ‘ve decided to form our own band where we could be ourselves and play/sing what we want to. Our first album was released in 2016.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Mazunova: Gene usually writes music, creates arrangement, then I come up with a name of the song, lyrics and vocal lines.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Mazunova: At least a few actually but speaking of the latest EP I’d say “Dark Alley” because the lyrics was written right before all lockdowns but the lyrics sound like it was written later. It was like a prophecy.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?

Mazunova: Get back to touring, make a collaboration with another band, make a music video or videos.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Mazunova: I want people to think when they hear our songs, I want them to find something special and personal for them in each of our songs. If they’re feeling bad about something, I want to give them hope and support with our music.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Mazunova: Planning in 2021 is impossible, I suppose. So for now, I’d like you to listen to our latest EP “Inside” on all digital platforms. Soon physical copies will be available too. Most importantly, let’s hope for the best and for meeting at gigs soon.
