Review Fix Exclusive: Franco Luna Talks Origin in Art, Goals And More

Review Fix chats with comic book artist Franco Luna, who discusses his origin in art and so much more.

Review Fix: How did you know a career in comics was for you?

Franco Luna: I didn’t! I always loved comic books but for one reason or another I ended up doing commercial illustration. I did a passion project once in a while but nothing too serious. Then I published a mini story in Aces Weekly… The next year I landed a video game project in which I would draw the comics, but still small stuff. It wasn’t until I came across Mark and Lesser Known Comics that I decided I could do this full time and enjoy myself big time in the process.

Review Fix: Who inspires you creatively?

Luna: I’m inspired by the work of other artists and my own previous work by contrast. I see this guys’ illustrations and them compare that to my own and would say “I gotta step up my game if I wanna catch up with this guys,” you know?

These artists always vary. Right now, from the top of my head I could mention Capullo, Larraz, Jiménez, Fernández as my main inspiration/people I can steal stuff from haha.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest round of work?

Luna: Anime, most definitely. I’ve never been much of a manga/anime guy but lately I began to appreciate it more and more. The dynamism of it. I love it. I’ve been stealing ideas left and right here too haha. I guess you’ll see in the next action-packed mini issue for LKC.

Review Fix: How is your work different or special?

Luna: I wouldn’t say it is any different nor special. It’s special to me though. I always compare what I’m currently doing to what I did last month or year and I always see improvement. That motivates me. I really hope people see improvement too every time they se new stuff that came from my hand.

Review Fix: Who do you think will dig it the most?

Luna: Hmmm… teenagers? I always try to do the cool stuff the teenager me would love to see on paper.

Review Fix: How do you want it to be remembered?

Luna: I guess as long as someone remembers it as being awesome I’ll be happy.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Luna: Yes. Go check the Lesser Known Comics stuff! Download the mini issues for free. Also, if you want to say something about my art (good or bad) my inbox is always open for constructive criticism.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Luna: I’m planning stuff on the side if the comic book work I’m doing. Illustration/fine arts stuff, something for the love of art that I need to do for myself. Hopefully you’ll see something soon.

Review Fix: Where can people find out more?

Luna: Instagram is where I’m being more active right now. Go check out @francoluna.art
