Review Fix Exclusive: Jordan Kroeger Talks ‘Tiger Boy Vs. The World’

Review Fix chats with “Tiger Boy Vs. The World” author Jordan Kroeger, who discusses the comics and his goals for them.

Review Fix: How did you know a career in comics was for you?

Jordan Kroeger: It’s definitely not a career for me. Who knows, maybe someday! It’s a hobby for me that I take pretty seriously.

Review Fix: Who inspires you creatively?

Kroeger: My kids inspire me with their huge imaginations. Artistically, Daniel Warren Johnson, James Harren, Paul Pope, Frank Quitely… too many to count.

Review Fix: What inspired this comic strip?

Kroeger: My son River came up with the Tiger-Boy character, and we are always play-acting and creating crazy stories together. Now my daughter is old enough where she’s getting in on the fun. I take ideas and characters that come from play-time with my kids and plug them into existing story ideas I have. It’s kind of a mash-up of my kids and I’s brains.

Review Fix: How is it different or special?

Kroeger: I think it’s different because it’s a fantasy-based action book where the real focus is on fights and action scenes. It’s manga-influenced in that I’ll let an action-scene play out from start to finish without skipping anything. It’s also special because it’s an all-ages action book, which is hard to pull off. It’s a tricky thing to do. It should be appreciated by kids and adults equally.

Review Fix: What makes this Kickstarter cool?

Kroeger: It’s for 2 comic issues, not just one. And the first issue has been fully animated into a voice-acted motion comic which is free to watch. We also have 2 zine-style mini-comics that my kids wrote. They came up with the story and dialogue and I illustrated them.

Review Fix: Who do you think will dig it the most?

Kroeger: Anyone who enjoys Dragonball (or other fight manga) and fighting games will love this book. Anyone who has kids, or who’s a kid at heart will love this book.

Review Fix: How do you want it to be remembered?

Kroeger: I want Tiger-Boy Versus to be remembered as that crazy cool book people can’t wait to see the next issues of!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Kroeger: Make sure you watch the motion comic to get a taste of the book. If you want to see more, back the Kickstarter!

Review Fix: What’s next?

Kroeger: More Tiger-Boy Versus! Also, some animation and gaming projects I can’t talk about yet.

Review Fix: Where can people find out more?

Kroeger: Check out the Kickstarter to see all of the cool rewards we have. You can follow me on Patreon where I post a page every week and update you on other cool stuff. I also regularly post on TwitterInstagram, and Facebook.
