Review Fix chats with Slomo Casino’s Jack Batchelor, who discusses the band’s origin, creative process and so much more.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Jack Batchelor: The project started early last year when myself and Jonny started sending each other song ideas, these usually came in the form of voice memos we’d send each other drunk, so it’s a small miracle we actually managed to construct anything half-decent out of them.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Batchelor: One of us will have a melody idea, chord progression or lyrics all ready and we’ll frame other parts around that until we figure out something that works.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Batchelor: “Balloonâ€, it’s a song that came together seamlessly; starting with an arrangement that Jonny wrote, I listened to it and at the time was staring out the skylight of my basement in a slightly hungover state and somehow I instantly knew what lyrics to write. The lyrics are almost like a love letter to wanderlust and that feeling you get when you know you belong somewhere else and the romance and excitement involved with that. It will be released as part of our upcoming EP “Marshmallow.â€
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2021?
Batchelor: We will be releasing our first single “Marshmallow†on 17.09.2021, then we plan to follow that up with a few more singles before we release the entire 5 track EP. We have our first live show planned for later in the year too as well as an acoustic EP release with a couple videos in the pipeline too.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Batchelor: I think the main thing for our first release is we want the tunes to stick in peoples heads, then we’ll know if we’re writing catchy melodies.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Batchelor: Whilst we’re planning these separate releases over the rest of the year, the next thing will be writing and recording the next EP so we’re ahead of the game and ready for 2022!
