Review Fix Exclusive: rocco, Talks ‘Grey Theory’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Rocco, who discusses their new single, “grey theory,” as well as their creative process and goals for 2022.

Review Fix: What events in your life and in society inspired “grey theory”?

r,: man… all of it… allen iverson… reebok commercials… going to africa as a kid… seeing columbine on the news… being around guns throughout childhood and then seeing a gun in someone’s hand at a studio in the inner city in a totally different energy … studying hip hop… noticing the difference between white and black cultures, but not understanding it.. doing dmt, integrating it… studying melanin , watching spike lee movies… meeting kanye… 2020 as a whole… protests , looting , marches, violence, peace, chaos… all of it.

Review Fix: Listening to you, it’s obvious there’s a ton of different moving parts. Frank Ocean, Kanye, Incubus, and Kid Cudi Are all there. But who else inspires you musically?

r,: justin vernon.. my dad.. lupe fiasco… prince… pharrell.., ryan leslie… david bowie… freddie mercury… jay z … bob dylan … bjork… kid rock… metallica…  enya … marshall mathers.. limp bizkit… the beatles… frederic chopin… papa roach really affected me young… luiz bonfa… tegan and sara. ive been touched and inspired by everything that i’ve ever interacted with… whether consciously or unconsciously … some more than others.

Review Fix: Away from music, who are your biggest role models?

r,: bruce lee, michael jordan, sadhguru , my dad , steve jobs… lots of people who embodied their highest possibilities … kobe… kanye…people who lean in to whats needed and they become what’s needed,… they become the change they wanted to see…

Review Fix: What are your goals in music?

r,:  allow the Light to move through me and utilize me to my fullest potential possible… i don’t just want “as many ears to hear my music as possible”… i’d rather have a super profound life altering affect on a smaller group than a less potent effect on many… like, i’ve seen soldiers with their limbs blown off from war tell my dad his music is what they listened to as the helicopter lowered into a battle zone… like how kid cudi and kanye and kurt cobain used their music as a vessel to communicate important culturally relevant issues and ideas that had a deep profound spiritual impact on certain souls… i’d like that… i’d like to look into many eyes with tears dripping out that actually Heard me.. you know?…. i hope my songs never play in the background at a party where nobody notices… if it does play at a party like that… i want to be the song playing that the kid in the corner with social anxiety hears and it makes them emotional so they leave the party and go home and start journaling about how they need to change and how they’re life needs to change.. and then 10 or 15 years later they tell me that was a pivitoal moment in their awakening journey cuz then they googled me and that song and then they got into self realization and raja kriya yoga…

Review Fix: How do you think “grey theory” gets you there?

r,: i think i’ve been “on the fence” like the song says for a long time… and since “non duality” has become more and more real to me… i realize i dont actually belong on one side or the other… i belong in the in between… because The Creator of All That Is made me like i am because i’m a translator… it’s my job to hang out in the discomfort and integrate the moving peices… so that i can assist both sides in understanding each other…

one time, i was shown that one of my primary functions in this incarnation is to “remedy disconnect”… and i sense grey theory is my best attempt at that so far…

Review Fix: Who needs this song in their life? Why?

r,: idk.. maybe nobody… maybe everybody… thats not for me to say.. hopefully theres someone at spotify and they hear it and they’ve experienced the same unconscious racial, religious, cultural dogma disconnects as i have.. and they get inspired to put this song on some poppin playlists.. hopefully it gets to the kids who feel stuck and judge the fact that they don’t identify with their cultures dogma, or their family lineage’s disposition… i trust that it’ll get to the ears, hearts, and minds that its meant to… the ones who are ready to stop living in the black and white of dualistic polarities and shift their attention to a more subtle realm of possibilities where integration, fusion, and synthesis allow for paradoxes , contradictions, contrast, and the full spectrum of possibilities without making them wrong…

Review Fix: What’s next?

r,: – keep going… climbing.. sharing.. putting it out… i feel like by the time it gets to this stage, my job is done… my real job is to obey Spirit’s guidance and create inspiring art… the rest is out of my hands… thank God theres a super ultra mega devoted team of jedi around now so i’m not all on my own when it comes to the promo stuff.. ..ha,,, but i suppose that aspect of the situation is whats happening now.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

r,: – fast for 5 days and dont interface with the matrix and watch what happens. – study dr. sebi

Review Fix: Where can people find out more about you?

r,: – everything is on instagram , @roccomoon
