AEW Rampage Power Rankings: Title Defenses Galore

NFL Legend Tom Brady retired. I hope he has a wonderful party and invites all his friends and family. But on Rampage there was a Private Party and Tom was not invited! Christian, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus all won but they ruined the party. So let’s jump into this week’s rankings and find out how.

Honorable Mention: Darby Allin
. Andrade went into Stinf’s locker room looking for him but Darby was there instead. Andrade insisted Sting was Darby’s boss and tried to talk him into joining him. Darby said a lot of things are for sale but his dignity isn’t one of them and then pulled a bat from behind the chair he was sitting in. El Idolo implored him to calm down and left still saying he needed to talk to Darby’s boss.

5. Lee Johnson.
Johnson teamed with Brock Anderson in a loss to FTR when they hit him with a spike piledriver. Normally I wouldn’t give the loser of a match a spot without the winner getting one but Johnson showed me so much star potential in this match. He hit a tope con hilo on Cash then got launched over the other side by Brock on to Dax. He also followed up a DDT from Brock with a turning frog splash that likely would have gotten the 3 if Wheeler’s foot wasn’t on the ropes. I want to see more from “Big Shotty” whether it comes with Brock Anderson or as a solo act but for the love of God if they’re going to stay a team get matching gear. This is such a pet peeve of mine. Also, how old is Brock Anderson? Is he 25? 35? 55? He and Arn got those Howard Finkel genes where they just look 50 from the start of adulthood.

4. Jon Moxley.
Max Caster’s opening rap was a lot softer on Mox than it could have been but there was a funny line; “Hey the network called. He said watch your mouth.” Mox and Bowens then went on to kick off the show with a solid contest. Bowens had some bright spots hitting The Arrival as Mox tried to get back in the ring at one point and nailing The Acclaim To Fame for just 2. Bowens nearly stole the upset when Aubrey Edwards tried ro grab the boombox from him and Caster tossed him the chain but Mox countered with a cutter before dumping Caster out of the ring with a lariat, landing another one on Bowens and then hitting the Paradigm Shift for the 3. He’s 2-0 in AEW and 4-0 overall since his return from rehab and I don’t see him slowing down anytime soon. He’s on a Bryan Danielson like schedule these last few weeks which is fitting because after the match we saw Bryan watching on a TV in the back and then smiling at the camera continuing to plant the idea that we’re finally going to get the Moxley v. Danielson match we were all expecting for Full Gear.

3. Jade Cargill.
Jade got 18 wins without suffering a giant loss. Then she got another and another. In fact she ended tonight 26-0 with her second successful title defense beating Julia Hart with Jaded. Hart wrestled with the eye patch and it cost her as she couldn’t see the pump kick that preceded Jade’s finisher. This was another perfect use of Cargill. A dominant, quick win that saw her do push-ups and sit-ups in the ring and never be in any real danger. Let her get to 174-0. Do it!

2. Private Party.
I’ve said it before but these 2 are criminally underrated and underused. Since defeating The Young Bucks on the 2nd episode of Dynamite these 2 have been releagted to Matt Hardy’s underlings and never given a real chance to shine. This match served as a stark reminder that these 2 deserve so much more than they’ve ever gotten. I’m hoping they get away from the spotlight sucking Matt Hardy soon enough and get a lot more opportnities for showcases like this match.

1. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.
These 4 guys went 100 mph from the jump and I appreciated it. Jungle Boy put his team on his back tonight. He opened the match kicking out of Gin & Juice right after the bell. He then showed off his insane cardio landing 3 straight dives to the outside. First flying through the 2nd and bottom rope on to Kassidy, then through the middle and rop rope to Quen and finally over the top rope on to both men. After some jostling in the corner Jungle Boy wound up on Luchasaurus’ shoulders and when Kassidy tried a flying crossbody on to him Jungle Boy flipped through off Luchasaurus shoulders to turn it into a powerslam in a spot that looked awesome, even if Luchasaurus standing there holding Jungle Boy in a Doomsday Device type piggyback ride to set it up looked a bit silly. Jungle Boy locked in the Snare Trap on Kassidy to nearly get the win but Quen hit a Shooting Star Press to break it up. Eventually the Jurassic duo were able to land a Thoracic Express and their 2nd successful defense.
