Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Philip Bowen, who discusses his new single, “Stella†and so much more.
About Philip Bowen:
West Virginia native, Philip Bowen, looks on the bright side of life with his new single, “Stella,†due out on January 21, 2022. The singer-songwriter infuses every track with positivity, using his Appalachian roots as inspiration for each song he writes. The dynamic multi-instrumentalist is an award-winning musician who has performed online and offline to over 15 million people and is the reigning winner of TikTok’s Greatest Talent Competition.
The Nashville Songwriter Association International (NSAI) has marked Bowen as “One to Watch,†and with one listen of “Stella,†you know instantly why that’s true. Inspired by his youngest daughter, the song is an ode to looking up when the world tries to bring you down. The warm melody earworms its way into your mind with a mix of hopefulness and uncertainty, amplified by Bowen’s soft, sweet vocals. As the tender piano pours over each note, he sings, “I’ve been thinking about tomorrow / it’s gonna be a brighter day /it’s gonna be alright.†You can’t help but have hope for a better tomorrow when you hear the final, ringing notes of “Stella.â€
Review Fix: Your work is so positive. How hard is it to be like that today?
Philip Bowen: Thank you! Obviously some days it is much harder to see the glass as half full than others, but for me it’s more of an inner-joy that allows me to stay positive in many different circumstances. I definitely have gloomy days, but I try and keep my focus on the sunnier side when I can. I also have an incredible support system that helps keep me grounded and focused.
Review Fix: How did this song come to life?
Bowen: This song came to life fairly quickly once I sat down to write it. I wrote this song using the piano and I had one of my daughters in mind during the songwriting process. I worked with a musician friend of mine, Jake Fine, to produce the song. We’ve worked together on other tracks of mine (Happy with Myself), and we make a great team. The song was mastered by Moses Mastering down in Nashville.
Review Fix: Who do you think must listen to it?
Bowen: Everyone, of course! but seriously I think anyone who needs a lift or wants to reflect on where they’ve come from and where they’re going. “Stella” will be like a warm cup of coffee on a winter morning for your soul.
Review Fix: What are your goals for this song?
Bowen: I want this song to find whoever it’s meant for, and to reach as many folks as possible. I’ve enjoyed so much growth over the past several months, and I want to share that with my fans, but also use this as an introduction to people that have never heard my songs or message.
Review Fix: How is it similar or different from your other work?
Bowen: The biggest difference with “Stella” is in how the piano leads and stands out. It’s also similar in the good vibes and storytelling that my fans are used to hearing in my existing songs. “Stella” features the piano but also has some killer guitar work, percussion, layered harmonies, etc.
Review Fix: How do you want this track to affect people?
Bowen: I want this to help people understand that they are loved and cared for, and that as dark as the day may be, one of their tomorrows will be alright.
Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone listen to Stella?
Bowen: I think “Stella” will bring some joy to whoever listens to it. I think it’s perfect for this unprecedented and ultra-anxious time we are living in. I want someone to listen to “Stella” for themselves, it’s a good little piece of serotonin.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Bowen: I’ve got several more songs in the works that I’m super excited to share! I’m also hoping to do some in-person shows in 2022. I’ve got several trips to Nashville planned for songwriting, performing, and recording. Stay tuned!
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
Bowen: Just a big Thank You for caring about my music and investing in me! Come hang out at one of my live streams or live shows some time, I guarantee you’ll smile.
Review Fix: Where can people find out more?
Bowen: People can find me all over social media @PhilipBowenMusic – TikTok and Insta are probably my biggest platforms and I livestream there a few times per week. People can find my music on Spotify, itunes, BandCamp, and anywhere else they get music!
