Review Fix chats with Slimz (aka Pavaratchie), who discusses his origin in music and so much more.
About SLIMZ:
As he begins to share his vibrant reggae-rap fusion vibe and energetic storytelling with the world, Barbados born and raised, Brooklyn based emerging artist Slimz (aka Pavaratchie) must make one thing clear: “I can listen to hundreds, even a thousand beats and nothing gives me goosebumps. But that singular beat that does that and piques my interest, that’s the one that sparks the creative process.†On his official debut single and video “Pandemic Show,†the multi-talented singer/rapper speaks whimsically, incisively and insightfully to our current moment as we collectively move past the pandemic era and into a place of cautious hope and optimism.
Produced by Slimz’ musical collaborator I-Kirk at Brooklyn’s Bomsteppah Studios, the soulful, piano and crunch groove driven track finds the rapper and singer defiant in the face of the trials of the past year and a half and determined to overcome the setbacks we all experienced: “I don’t trust nobody/I don’t need no one around me/I’m on that social distance s*** and that became a hobby/Got my hater blockers on that should be self-explanatory/If I offended anybody, my apologies, I’m sorry (no I’m not)…†He then powerfully asserts his sense of independence and the will to not only survive and thrive: “F*** all y’all cuz I don’t need yuh help/I rock thousand dolla shades, I got Gucci on my belt/I got money in the bank, I pay fa s*** all by myself. . .â€
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
SLIMZ: I was surrounded by music from a very young age. My father was a well know singer on the island (Barbados) back in the day, and I was raised by my grandmother who was of Christian faith, was always singing church songs and praising god from I know myself, music was around my whole life.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
SLIMZ: It starts with a beat that moves me, I’d play it over and over everyday, every chance it get till I catch a vibe, then comes the words, and whatever topic fits best with the beat is the direction I would more than likely follow as articulate as I can (articulate meaning clear and understanding as opposed to flashy vocabulary).
Review Fix: What inspires you?
SLIMZ: Happiness inspires me, seeing people that I care for happy inspires me…I’m not the happiest person but when I am, even though we all know happiness is short lived…I’m a great person to be around. A moment of complete happiness for me is a feeling few words can explain, it should inspire everyone.
Review Fix: How has COVID affected your art?
SLIMZ: Covid was like a mental reset, made everyone stop and pay attention to themselves. As far as my music is concerned it kinda force me to change the quality of it…I felt to create more positive, real life, from experiences type of music than I was used to. Maybe it’s just a faze cuz this to ( Covid ) shall pass but for now this is where my head is at.
Review Fix: What does music mean to you?
SLIMZ: Music is the sound track to one’s life… look at it like this : almost every major event in a person’s life time comes with a song. ( think about it ).
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
SLIMZ: A mixture of genres with an accent lol…a little bit of rap, reggae, singing and some melody…Its like indirectly pleasing everyone.
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
SLIMZ: Polar opposites…you can tweak anything in the studio but you gotta know what your doing when your live, practice and experience is key.
Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?
SLIMZ: Let’s just say I was still feeling myself in the pandemic.
Review Fix: How is it different from your other work?
SLIMZ: It’s different because I don’t do to much Rappin, my style is more Reggae but it was more of a hip hop beat so I chose to Rap on it.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2022?
SLIMZ: Survive to see 2023.
Review Fix: What do you feel you have to do to get to the level you want to in music?
SLIMZ: I just need to surround myself with the right ppl ( like minded ppl ) and continue working hard. The rest is up to the almighty.
Review Fix: What’s next?
SLIMZ: What’s next is to continue making good music till I run out of things to say I guess
