Review Fix chats with Dapper Dinos’ Chris Gallagher and Rick Seeger, who let us know all about their newest title, Dapper Dash, as well as what else is going on with their exciting brand.
About Dapper Dinos:
Founded by cousins, Rick and Chris, who are fathers to great kids and a couple of cute dogs. With over 40 years of experience working at Fortune 100 tech companies and major motion design studios, they are tech-inspired, game-playing, and crypto-loving dads who built Dapper Dinos for their families.
Their vision for Dapper Dinos is to create a web3 brand that is approachable by all and fun for the whole family. They have dedicated their hard work and efforts to creating games and NFTs that are engaging, safe, and accessible for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Their commitment to quality and family-friendly content has been recognized by VeeFriends and Gary Vaynerchuk, as they were selected as the first pre-launch partner of VeeFriends. This is a testament to the quality of their intellectual property and their dedication to creating a joyful and safe gaming and NFT collecting experience that brings families together.
With a focus on creating a family-friendly and inclusive space, Dapper Dinos NFT is set to become a leading player in the NFT space, providing a platform for families to enjoy fun and engaging games and collectibles.
Review Fix: How was this game born?
Dapper Dinos: Since the launch of Dapper Dinos NFT, we have always wanted to bridge the gap between web2/gamers and web3 communities. The best way we could think to do this was to create a simple-to-play game that integrates wallet connect for web3 folks and simple gameplay for the gamers that appreciate classic games and want a bit of nostalgia.
What is your role in the game?
Dapper Dinos: Our roles were to bring our unique eye for design, as well as, our broad web3 experience in order to help land a game with mass appeal across both web2 and web3, but more broadly, we internally joked we were the dads of development trying our best to ensure that the final product was going to be something our kids would be proud of and would be fun and enjoyable for gamers of all ages.
Review Fix: What has development been like?
Dapper Dinos: Honestly, a huge learning experience in how game development works. It is truly shocking to see how a game goes from draft images to an alpha release to a beta release to a final release and how many different moving parts and pieces there are. The team at Mox is full of true professionals that aided and taught us along the way and kept us very calm through each iteration. I think without that aid we would’ve all collectively panicked and pulled the plug and went extinct many times over!
Review Fix: What makes this game special?
Dapper Dinos: I think it’s a combination of a few things.
For us, the first thing that I look at is the visuals. We have rich environments, great little flourishes like the power-ups, and my favorite thing, the Mechs. The mechs, along with their companions, really bring the game to another level.
Next, the community. We’ve partnered with four leading NFT Communities and are in talks with others to really bring the game and community together and continue to grow.
Lastly, it’s Jurassically fun to play.
Review Fix: What games influenced this one the most?
Dapper Dinos: Altos Adventure, Jetpack Joyride, and Temple Run are some of the favorites among the team.
Review Fix: Any fun stories or wild moments during development?
Dapper Dinos: There’s an inside joke that we can’t hold a meeting unless Rick is in a hospital bed. From new family members being born, to surgeries, to procedures, to broken bones, to bruised organs – no meeting was complete without a hospital bed!
Review Fix: What were the major lessons learned?
Dapper Dinos: Find the right partners. We didn’t need someone to just press buttons and make a character move on the screen, that’s a worker. We found Mox and they brought an entirely new perspective, a view of what it feels like to be exceptional.
Review Fix: Do you think preserving older gameplay mechanics in new games is important?
Dapper Dinos: Absolutely, there is something special about the simplicity of older gameplay mechanics, it allows for anyone to pick it up and understand how to play instantly. From the start of this process we’ve preached make it simple, make it fun.
Review Fix: The marketplace is crowded. How do you think you stand out?
Dapper Dinos: First, being web3 enabled by incorporating wallet connect technology, which offers unique benefits such as decentralized ownership, perks based on NFT ownership, and interoperability with other web3 applications. This integration sets us apart from traditional endless runner games by providing a new level of player empowerment.
Lastly, community engagement! By building a strong community we can create a loyal player base that spans web2 and web3 creating new advocates for the game, and in return, we see greater adoption.
Review Fix: How have your previous experiences in the industry helped this game?
Dapper Dinos: Being the VeeFriends first PLP (Project Launch Program), and having our NFT collection launched by VeeFriends, we learned firsthand the power of community. It was that very unique previous experience that greatly impacted the type of game we wanted to make. The broader web2 gaming community does not like web3 and we knew that in order to bridge that divide it was going to have to be done with a community-first mindset.
Review Fix: How do you want this game to ultimately be remembered?
Dapper Dinos: One of the first games created that brings web3 and gamers together in a common place and shows how seamless that interaction can be.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Dapper Dinos: We are currently in the development of a full 3D platformer that is going to bring our hero Charli into a whole new world. It’s going to introduce many new characters, enemies, and bosses. We see this as a huge step in building our brand and it’s IP
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
Dapper Dinos: Make sure you download the game and try to beat the global high score.
