
LOS ANGELES and CHICAGO – SEPTEMBER 2, 2025 – Children’s and family entertainment company Playground Productions today announced the relaunch of “Backyard Football ’99.” The new gaming title continues a banner year for the production company, following the success of Playground’s previously released chart-topping titles which include Backyard Baseball ’97, Backyard Baseball ‘01, and Backyard Soccer ’98. The new release advances Playground’s mission to cultivate a multi-generational community through gaming, sports and animated content that is engaging, inclusive, and uplifting. Backyard Football ‘99 is available for pre-order now on mobile (App Store, Google Play) and can be wishlisted on Steam. It launches to the public on Tuesday, September 9th.

“Backyard Football ‘99 made me a football fan for life. From learning plays to managing teams, this game made football accessible, fun, and exciting for all ages. I am so proud to bring it back in time for football season,” said Lindsay Barnett, CEO of Playground Productions, which owns Backyard Sports, in announcing the launch.
Returning players to the game include Barry Sanders, Dan Marino, Drew Bledsoe, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Randall Cunningham, and Steve Young.
“Backyard Sports holds a special place in the hearts of sports fans. Joining Backyard Football in 1999 was a great honor, and I’m excited to celebrate its relaunch for fans old and new,” said Barry Sanders, veteran Running Back for the Detroit Lions.

As with the other relaunching titles, the game hails from Mega Cat Studios. Mega Cat and a dedicated team of passionate fans have made the impossible possible by making Backyard accessible on modern devices by reverse engineering the original CD-ROM to bring this game back to life.
