Shelita: Into the Depths EP Teaser Review: A Siren Discovered

Shelita has plenty of accolades under her belt thanks to a litany of special tracks over the years, but her latest EP teaser, Into the Depths, may be the best work of her career and an awesome entry point to someone who has never heard her before.

If you’ve never heard her before, Shelita simply has a way of bending and playing with the ends of words that will hypnotize your ears. She has a way of holding notes a few seconds longer than someone else. There’s a strength to her breath before a verse as well. She’s got that something “special” behind every single track. Apparently drawing inspiration from a nearly fatal accident in Africa and the unexpected healing that followed, this collection of tracks is a discovery of a sound she always knew she had, but is now being shared with the world. Although consisting of just three tracks- this EP Teaser shows a versatility that makes her instantly different from everyone in the crowded female pop scene.

“You Will Want My Love” is the most radio-friendly track on this teaser and is brimming with charisma. It’s fun  and sexy and a great entry point to what Shelita brings to the table- excellent lyrics and a powerful message.

“Fade” has a different vibe, but is equally as enchanting. Her voice is far more playful here, but the message is the same. Life is short. Make the most of it. With the powerful synth backing her up, she crushes the lyrics here and delivers an anthem that is sure to get plenty of airplay when the album is officially released next year.

“Bloom” is a pleasant surprise on this EP. A Ska track with a Blondie and Sublime feel to it, she takes you on an oceanic journey here that is wonderful for a car ride with friends or a walk by the beach. It’s wild how different her voice sounds here in comparison to the other tracks on this EP. At the same time, she delivers a signature sound that you expect.

Through these three distinctively different tracks, Shelita proves she’s a vocal force to be reckoned with, an artist with no safe place- someone who is willing to go into any genre in pop and make it her own.
