Review Fix chats with comic book writer and artist and musician Kevin Delgado, who discusses the inspiration behind his series, Tuff Stuff – and so much more.
Review Fix: How did you know a career in comics was for you?
Kevin Delgado: It became abundantly clear that all I could think of and want to do is draw professionally. I had been a student my entire life, whether it was oil painting classes I took as a kid or learning from the great Mark Bender at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Illustration just possessed me.
Review Fix: Who inspires you creatively?
Delgado: My inspiration comes from my desire to succeed. In many ways I am inspired by the people that took control of their own destiny. I’d hate to name names because there are literally too many to list and plenty are obvious. A nice day, a classic movie, a good concert usually drives me to create.
Review Fix: How are your comics different or special?
Delgado: My comics are different because I make whatever I feel like making. I don’t have an editor to tell me to change things or add in stuff I wasn’t planning on doing in the first place. My characters all have a piece of me in them whether it’s good or bad. I think the ability to bare myself in that way is easily represented in my books. That and I am one of the greatest artists to ever Grace Gods green earth.

Review Fix: Who do you think will dig it the most?
Delgado: My generation and the generation before that lived through the era really seem to resonate with it.
Review Fix: How do you want your books to be remembered?
Delgado: Well crafted and thought out. Original and a joy to read. Remember, no one ever complained about over delivering.
Review Fix: Tell me about your music!
Delgado: I am Frigid Giant. Rapper and producer. I’ve been in a million groups but since 2017 I have been 1/2 of Green Giant along side producer extraordinaire Cee Gee. I’m pretty good and have a gnarly rap resume, a bunch of Albums and a couple beat tapes. I’ve had a record deal and have toured nationally a couple times. My discography is 10 or 11 projects deep with more in the chamber. I love to rap live, I would say it’s the best way to enjoy my music. My latest project is Green Giant 2 and it’s streaming everywhere.
Review Fix: How does it intertwine with your art and comics?
Delgado: I just make things when I want to make them. It has to feel right. As far as intertwining, Hip Hop and comics are some of America’s oldest past times. Comics have always influenced hip hop, whether it was taking an emcee name from a character established in comics or graffiti art. With that being said I have a ton of comic references in my raps, tho I wouldn’t put my music in a “nerd core†category.
