Review Fix chats with singer DeeAnn, who discusses her new single, “Stay Here With Me.”
About DeeAnn:
We’ve all been in that dark, despairing place that multi-talented singer/songwriter DeeAnn sings of on her soulful, deeply passionate new single “Stay Here with Me.” We thought we had met the mate of our dreams, only to question everything when he or she walks away, sometimes without reason or warning. No matter what we’ve been through, we remember how it felt to be with this person who changed our life and we’ll do anything to have just a little more time.
Co-written with the Buffalo based artist’s longtime producer, renowned bassist RiShon Odel, the song perfectly captures those raw, plain-spoken feelings from the start, when DeeAnn sings: “I don’t want to live this life without you by my side/Ever since you walked away, I’m slowly dying inside. . .Every time I see you, I want you more and more…” The chorus finds her simply asking her loved one to “Stay Here With Me,” adding depth to her emotion with lush, dreamy scatting – just one of the remarkable tools in her vast artistry – that reminds us that sometimes it’s just hard to find words to convey the depth of all we’re feeling.
Review Fix: How was this song written?
DeeAnn: I was reminiscing about a special man in my life. The lyrics and melody easily flowed as I began writing “Stay Here with Me.” I believed this man was my soulmate, but unfortunately, the feelings were not mutual. My producer, RiShon Odel, scored the music around my melody and I immediately fell in love with his arrangement.
Review Fix: How is it different from your other work?
DeeAnn: Some songs can take weeks, months, or even years to write. “Stay Here with Me,” was done so quickly and smoothly like it was supposed to be written. It comes from a personal perspective which can make it easier to write. Not all of my songs flow that easily.
Review Fix: How else is it special?
DeeAnn: My producer wrote a beautiful score for the string section and I fell in love as soon as I listened to them. The song opens up with the strings playing the intro. I also love the harmonies he created in the bridge for me to sing. They sounded unusual and dissonant. I would ask, “really, are you sure?” He was always right. He has a great ear for harmonies. I love the minor key the song is in which immediately connects you emotionally to the expressions of love and sadness.
Review Fix: Who do you think gets the most out of this track?
DeeAnn: I think anyone has who fallen in love and ended up with a broken heart can relate to it. “I don’t want to live this life without you by my side. Ever since you walked away, I’m slowly dying inside.” Or, “Baby please don’t tell me this is time for us to part. Can’t you see without you slowly, it’s breaking my heart,” are a few of the lyrics.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2025?
DeeAnn: I am working on my 4th album which I am currently writing new songs to place on the CD.
I plan on traveling to Italy to market my music to new fans.
I will be appearing in more shows and interviews to promote my new music.
Review Fix: What else is next?
DeeAnn: I’m setting up a tour for the Summer of 2025 to showcase my new album. I’m also looking forward to collaborating with my friends/musicians to create more music.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
DeeAnn: I thank God every day for the blessings and opportunities in my life. I am also grateful for the love and support from family and friends. I continue to ask God to fill me with his Holy Spirit, and show me his Will for my life. I feel more peace then trying to do it on my own.
