From the second you click play on the new Six Migrations EP, it’s like a time machine.
It’s like the best of ‘90s metal, grunge and alternative all rolled into one. Add in a heavy dose of Death and Progressive metal and you have a pretty killer concoction. The fact that the whole production is performed by David Vitello is a factor that makes this EP even cooler.
Powered by great vocals, killer drums and guitar that serve as the heartbeat of each track, this is an awesome EP. There’s simply not a bad track on here.
“Ghosts” has some Alice in Chain vibes and it may be the best sung track on the album. It’s got an excellent variety to it and can definitely get some major radio time if the right DJ finds it. “Animals” is a bit different in the fact that the death metal influences are more pronounced, as Vitello’s drum and guitar work are sped up and he’s got some stellar growls in there that intensify the sound. Just from these two tracks alone, you get a sense of his influences and diversity, but we’re still just getting started.
“Humans” is an exhausting track, not because it’s bad, but when you think about all the work Vitello put into it. This song must be hard as heck to perform live. His whispers, his screams, the haunting guitar, the consistent drum work- it’s an adventure for the ears and may be the best complete track on the album.
The three remaining tracks, “Demi Gods,” “Hell Denizens” and “Gods” all add something to the formula as well. The conversation in “Demi-Gods” is pretty innovative, while, “Gods” serves as an excellent way to end.
With so much to bite into on the EP, from the amazing drum work, to guitar work that makes each song feel special and tell a story. There aren’t many bands out there today aiming to build worlds like this and as a result, Six Migrations is an effort completely by itself in terms of ingenuity, creativity and effort.
Thank you for this Patrick! It means a lot given that so few people actually hear my stuff. I appreciate this very much. Thank you for taking the time to listen.
