Melba Moore: No Filter Review: No Filter Needed

From her hits in the ‘70s and ‘80s that earned her worldwide acclaim and Grammy nominations, to her work on Broadway and in film, Melba Moore has proven herself to be a consistent powerhouse. Her newest track, “No Filter,” written by Angela Pettus, mixed by Terry Hunter and produced by George Pettus is proof that she’s still got plenty left to give.

An ode to the dance hits that made her a superstar, “No Filter” does exactly what it intends to do- it puts a smile on your face and gets you to shake your tail feathers. The positive lyrics, “Live your best life. Have no regrets,” make it something anyone can sing along to and position it to be a track that can have plenty of commercial appeal. After a few listens, you can totally see this playing in a club with a ton of people dancing to it.

What separates it from your usual dance floor fare is the catchy and infectious guitar work that accompanies Moore’s voice. It’s a constant throughout. The syncopated palm mutes and fingerpicking make the song stand out, alongside excellent drum work, a customary in any great dance track.

In an effort to diversify the sound even more, there’s a super sexy synth solo in the middle of the track as well. Simply put, the layers here make ”No Filter” so much more than a dance track. With tinges of soul and R&B flavor as well, it’s got something for everyone’s ears.

However, it’s the vocals by Moore that make “No Filter” an exceptional track. After seven decades in music, Moore can still get it done. If you’re a fan of hers, she won’t disappoint you here. If you’ve never experienced her before, this is a great place to start.

No Filter will be available June 5th on all digital music platforms worldwide. Follow her on Instagram, Here.
