Review Fix Exclusive: Winston Warrior Interview

In the early ’90s, Winston Warrior was a member of the Miami-based R&B group, Lo’ Profile, which disbanded after several failed attempts at negotiating a record deal. The local production company that Lo’ Profile was associated with kept in their possession all the contact information that was needed to bargain on the groups’ behalf. No member of the group was able to get in touch with someone who could put them on a track to success. The group tried to get back together, but it wasn’t able to. The reality of the situation had set in and they all felt it was time to move on. They had families to support and didn’t want to be held back on a dream they felt would never come true.

For the time being, Warrior’s career appeared to be over.

While being together, though, Lo’ Profile was given the opportunity to open up concert shows for big name celebrities like Dru Hill, Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah. The group brought their energy and spirit to every performance.

“It was a great learning experience. Performing in front of such huge crowds helps build confidence,” says Warrior.

The group was able to gain experience and increase their level of comfort in front of large crowds. They were ready and willing to do what it took to move forward in a positive direction. Unfortunately, things didn’t end as planned.

“It saddens me that the people we trusted basically didn’t do anything that was beneficial for the group,” says Warrior. “As devastating as it was, and as much as we didn’t want to, the pressures of the world set in. It was time for us to go our separate ways.”

But now he’s back.

If you don’t know who Warrior is, you will soon. A fan-based artist, Warrior recently launched a website where all his fans can connect with him and give criticism on his music. He has introduced an Interactive Fan Engagement Campaign to recruit massive fan communication into his creative process. Warrior is over seeking assistance from his supporters to help create the title for his debut R&B solo album set to be released this upcoming August.

Warrior’s love and passion for music began as a child when he joined a church choir and took part in many amateur competitions and talent shows. Continuing to further enhance his talent, while attending the University of Miami, Warrior became a member of the Gospel Choir. He was discovered by LeDon Wright, an artist looking to recruit members to form a new R&B group. Warrior accepted the offer, along with Nealon Sears, bringing about Lo’ Profile.

“I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a passion for music,” says Warrior. “I have been exposed to it from a very young age and it just stayed with me.”

Having been deprived of happiness and success in the music industry, Warrior took nearly ten years off from pursuing music and took a job as a Corporate Marketing Executive. Dealing with the stressors of having your dreams crushed was completely overwhelming and it was difficult for Warrior to get back on his feet. With his close friends’ and family members’ support and motivation, Warrior decided to continue with his passion for music and start with a clean slate.

“It took me nearly ten years to build back up my confidence,” says Warrior. “By the Grace of God and with the love and support from the people closest to me, I was able to dream again. I was able to overcome a tough loss and for that I am thankful.”

The mark of a true artist is the desire to move on and continue to create positive messages through music. Having dealt with his own difficulties as an upcoming solo artist, Warrior understands that life after such devastation can remain a constant struggle.

With this in mind, through his website, Warrior has given his fans the ability to share with him their own personal setbacks in their lives. Being someone they can relate to, Warrior uses the power of his fans strength to overcome life’s obstacles to create his music.

“It is great to see people identifying a problem for what it is and overcoming those obstacles,” Warrior says with passion. “We are all able to achieve our goals. All you need is dedication, hard work and a dream.”

Warrior’s success means so much more to him when his fans can relate to the messages he tries to portray in his lyrics. Receiving letters and emails from fans stating that, in some way, he has helped change their lives, or encouraged someone to pursue their own dreams is the main reason Warrior will continue to make music. Fame and fortune isn’t his motive behind singing. At the end of the day, it is all about helping his fans reach a higher place in their hearts and minds.

“I am married to the Dream,” Warrior expresses with enthusiasm.

On Warrior’s website, he has disclosed a video journal of his everyday life as a solo artist. He is allowing his fans to witness tiring vocal lessons with his coach, heated debates with his management team and unedited studio recording sessions. Warrior wants his fans to feel like they are a part of what can be a major transformation in his career.

“This is something like a reality show except this is all real,” says Warrior. “There are no scripts and I don’t cut anything out. This is me. These are the thing that I encounter on a daily basis. I want to give my fans a chance to take this journey with me. They may not be there physically, but at least they understand that things aren’t always easy. I want them to see the steps I am taking to make sure this album flourishes.”

Warrior’s upcoming album symbolizes reincarnation. It represents a new beginning.

Like a Phoenix Rising from the Ashes.

The Phoenix is a mythical bird that is a fire spirit with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet. Near the end of its 500 to 1000 year life cycle, its builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites. The nest and bird both burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again.

With the phoenix as Warrior’s signature emblem, it accurately represents his rebirth and return to the music industry. He uses the strength and determination he developed to triumph over his past misfortune as a member of Lo’ Profile, to demonstrate that anything is possible if you just believe.

“The phoenix embodies destruction and rising from defeat,” says Warrior. “There comes a point in everyone’s life when they may get knocked down; but you must get back up and keep fighting. It is important that you don’t allow nothing and no one to break you apart.”

Overcoming such an overwhelming situation wasn’t easy for Warrior, but he blossomed into the artist he is today. Living his musical career through his fans, Warrior will continue to develop his passion, writing music that his fans can connect with. With many of his singles already released on his website, Warrior is looking forward to the ideas of his supporters for the title of his album.

Excited and blessed to be in this position, he is realizing that there is no turning back. All he can do now is move forward.

“There is no such thing as failing because I have already succeeded,” Warrior says passionately. “I have a single released, people wanting to interview me, working on my first video, and countless amounts of dedicated fans. The failure already happened and I have overcome that. This is beyond my expectations. I’m here.”
