Review Fix Exclusive: Abby Nissenbaum Talks ‘Why Does No One Want Me’

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Abby Nissenbaum, who discusses her new single, “Why Does No One Want Me” and much more.

About Abby Nissenbaum:

Critically acclaimed, Nashville-based LGBTQ+ indie-rock artist Abby Nissenbaum and her newest single Why Does No One Want Me,” dropping March 20, 2026 and leading up to her EP due out in June in time for PRIDE. Nissenbaum writes from the heart, exploring  themes of depression, isolation, and heartbreak, but anchored by messages of hope, empowerment, and community. Complemented by her effortlessly honest and raw vocal delivery, Nissenbaum offers relatable, honest and heartfelt lyricism amidst catchy melodies, beautifully contrasting the energetic indie-rock soundscape which surrounds her.

Review Fix: Your voice is something special. I can’t describe it. Who influences it?

Abby Nissenbaum: Well, thank you! I’m very inspired by 60s-70s rock and pop icons like Cass Elliot, Karen Carpenter, and Grace Slick. They all had incredibly powerful voices, but also had excellent technique and had a mastery over dynamics, which I think adds a level of emotionality that we don’t always hear in modern vocal production. For a more recent reference, I’m also very inspired by Celine Dion. Her voice packs a punch, but she sings really healthily (which is why she was able to sustain her career and demanding residencies for as long as she did!) I also love the way her harmonies are mixed and always reference them to my production team — modern pop production tends to push harmonies and other bgv way down into the mix, but I love the sound of keeping them bright and forward the way she does.

Review Fix: What do you think powers your creative process?

Nissenbaum: Hurt powers it, but love and hope keep the whole thing going!

Review Fix: How was Why Does No One Want Me written?

Nissenbaum: I wrote it originally as an RnB song to pitch to a friend. But I loved the melody so much I kept it for myself and just changed some of the lyrics to better suit my own album theming. In terms of actual workflow, I usually have a hook in my head and will try to figure out the general chords and key on the guitar or with a midi app (shout out to OneChord!) I’m not a good guitar player at all, so once I get the basic chord structure, I send it off to a friend who gives me a more structured (and much better-executed) demo instrumental. Then, from there, I’ll add in maybe a random GarageBand instrument and finally send it off to my producer, Martin, to work his magic!

Review Fix: What does this song mean to you?

Nissenbaum: It’s primarily just an acknowledgement that modern dating seems easier than ever before, but in reality, it’s harder regardless of what you’re bringing to the table.

Review Fix: What do you want it to resonate with people?

Nissenbaum: That people — especially high-achieving women, who tend to already be hard on themselves — should see and truly know their own worth.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Nissenbaum: My third EP will be out in June!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Nissenbaum: I think we’ve covered a lot of ground here!
