With the Sons getting ready for their trip to Belfast to rescue Abel, there is some business that they need to take care of first, involving a few other biker gangs- the Grimm Bastards, and The Myans. However, when business is settled, there is one person who decides to come along and make the trip a bit difficult.
This episode entitled “Widening Gyre” was intense. There were a few subplots that took place within it, one of which involved Jax’s father, and Gemma’s late husband John Teller, who was the original leader of the Sons of Anarchy. This can possibly lead into why Abel was taken to Belfast, as well as the uncovering of the other family secrets involving Gemma.
While Gemma is still recovering from a heart attack in the hospital, she tells Jax that she does not want to go to jail. Jax tells Gemma about his plan and how he is doing it to protect the club. While the Sons get ready to catch a plane to Belfast, they have a few obstacles to overcome, one of which is devising a plan for Gemma’s escape out of the hospital, because she insisted to come along. Tara, along with her boss, convince Chief Uncer that Gemma escaped with a gun.
The episode ends with Chief Uncer standing in the way of the Sons, but Gemma being the strong woman that she is, gets in the car anyways forcing the Chief to call for back up. A member of the Sons comes up with a brilliant plan that will send the cops to a different location and have the Sons catch a plane and be no where in sight as they make their way to Belfast.
This episode was one of the best of the season thus far. The storyline and subplots are coming together perfectly, and the action is stepping up. After this episode, it is safe to say that the intensity will continue to pick up and the Sons will have their work cut for their them as they step into another country.
