Keeping Up With the Dead

If you were thinking the zombie craze wasn’t back in full swing after the series premiere last week, you know that’s not the case now.

Make no mistake about it; AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is the best show on television right now.

Despite the fact that many comic book readers may feel that the changes and new characters added take away from the beauty of the inspired work, the show is still stellar from start to finish.

In spite of that, it’s hard not to agree with the fan boys. The changes made in episode two were ones made to bring in a talented actor like Michael Rooker and to make the story more appealing to the masses, rather than to push the ideas of Robert Kirkman’s George Romero-inspired world of death, loneliness and self-discovery. While those motifs are still all there in the show, many will argue that the scenes covered in this episode didn’t need to be changed and mainstream fans would have ate it up anyway.

We’ll never know if that’s indeed the case though. The same thing goes for why the writers have decided to tone down Tyrese’s character, making him much weaker than the former NFLer and zombie-killing madman he is in the comic. We’ll just have to wait and see how much this ends up impacting the series in the future.

Again, these things only make fans of the comic scratch their heads, as a newbie to the series will think everything going on is fantastic. Between the excellent production values and top-notch acting, it’s too hard not to fall in love with this show, even if you hate zombies. At this point, the first two episodes have flown by and next Sunday can’t come fast enough.

With the crew out of downtown Atlanta and Rick about to reunite with his family, the already frenetically paced show is about to get a little bit crazier.

The only question is with two nearly perfect episodes already under its belt, how long can this series keep this up?
