‘Tough Enough’ is Back

After a half decade absence, WWE’s “Tough Enough” is back. However, it’s not the same show many will remember.

Nevertheless, the drama, bumps, bruises and emotional stories that made the original show a winner are all still present.

The bottom line; it’s still a damn good reality show.

Forget fist pumps this season, this show delivers clenched ones.

Because Stone Cold says so.

For those that watched the first season, where a bunch of essentially green fans learned everything from scratch, this season is a bit different. While there are a few people with no wrestling experience, most of them have trained on the independent circuit and are desperate for an opportunity at the big time.

Regardless of that, trainers Stone Cold, Trish Stratus, Booker T and especially Bill DeMott give these people an emotional and physical beating that makes for some great television. The added comedy Austin and DeMott add by giving wrestlers nicknames such as “Afro” and “Skid marks”also provides some much needed laughter in between the tough physical and emotional challenges. The dynamics of the group of potential wrestlers is also a volatile one. Miss USA, Rima Fakih, isn’t as elegant as she puts on for the pageant cameras and with all the fakers, muscle heads and pretty faces in the group, when all pushed together, create a wild dichotomy.

While it wasn’t shown as much as it could have been in the first episode, the inner-workings of the candidates at home will prove to be a nice transition from all the in-ring activities Austin and the other trainers have them doing. From the parties, to the arguments, the show definitely takes a page from “The Real World.”

If you’re a fan of reality TV, that’s a good thing.

With a solid combination of attractive women, dumb jocks, phonies and heartfelt stories, WWE’s new “Tough Enough” gets the job done in the ring and behind the camera.

It looks like Monday night will start a bit earlier this season.
