This might go down as one of the best episodes of Impact this year.
Barely any filler and quality matches. This is what Impact is supposed to be.
While it may be remembered for its start, overall, it was a great show.
Apparently, after a promo with Eric Bischoff, it appears Sting is TNA’s version of DC Comics’ The Joker. From the laughing to facial expressions, it appears TNA creative thinks this is the angle that what’ll give his career some new life. While it was slightly entertaining, can it really provide the company with a ratings boost?
Probably not.
At the very least however, it’s an attempt on TNA’s part to lively up their product, which is absolutely needed.
Between that and the Jeff Jarrett in Mexico angle, the all X-Division Destination X pay per view in three weeks and the chance that Jerry Lynn and Rob Van Dam will compete at the event, TNA is at least trying to stretch its wings.
Add in a great X-Division match and a handful of other solid contests and this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling had a much better flow to it.
If they can continue to provide this type of high impact show, with as little filler as possible, TNA has room to grow.
Matches:
Scott Steiner vs. Bully Ray: A decent back and forth match that was dominated by Steiner, who delivered a variety of clotheslines in addition to a nasty looking T-Bone suplex and an overhead belly to belly. After the referee was taken out, Bully Ray hit Steiner with his wallet chain for the win. Later in the night, he was offered a spot in Immortal.
ODB and Jackie vs. Miss Tessmacher and Velvet Sky: A contest filled with more melee attacks than grapple maneuvers. The pace was lacking and there was never any real flow. Nevertheless, this appears to be a decent knockouts feud that has room to grow. That was mostly due to the work ethic of Velvet Skye, who delivered several solid clotheslines in the match.
Crimson and Matt Morgan vs. Beer Money: This was an excellent tag match filled with offense and a quick pace. James Storm continues to prove why is the best tag wrestler of this generation. Morgan continues to make the case for a serious push. The only thing it was missing was a decent angle to give it a true purpose.
Zema Ion vs. Dakata Darsow vs. Federico Palacios: Ion won this three-way contest with a 450 on Darsow. A solid match that was more about high spots, Ion almost killed himself with a sloppy corkscrew move off the top to the outside that missed terribly. Nevertheless, a great TV contest.
Winter vs. Mickie James in a street fight: Winter’s best work in the company to date. Vicious throughout, she also did a great job of selling. With Angelina Love hitting her finisher on James behind the referee’s back, Winter got the win on the TNA Knockout champion.
Abyss vs. Sting: A rough match that TNA used to “paint†Sting as a darker character. While the end proved that point exactly, as Sting hit Abyss with a glove covered in barbed wire, he wrestled most of the match as a face- basically the same way he’s always wrestled. For this angle to truly take off, Sting has to devote more of himself creatively to it and add a few new moves into his moveset.
